Des anges au cimetière Notre-Dame

Last weekend, under a scorching hot sun, I went for a stroll at Notre Dame graveyard, which isn't situated near Notre-Dame church. I saw these touching angels which I liked a lot.

I almost said, "Saints alive!" But, caught myself. Nice photo, Ciel...you've caught the pensiveness quite well. Cemeteries are fascinating places.

Cool cemetary statue photos! The angels seem to be a little tired and bored, non?

In the largest cemetary of Paris once, my wife and I bumped into church friends from Minnesota who we didn't know were in Paris! Surprise! I went to see Edith Piaf's grave among others...

There are so many beautifully crafted statues and headstones in old cemeteries. Your pictures are fantastic!

Interesting images of a pair of beautiful statues: tired, sad or crushed by the canicule?

I especially like the top one. Contemplating what was lost?

It looks like an interesting graveyard. I'm curious - in Versailles, how much of the town is taken up by the palace and grounds, and how much is the town itself?

That looks remarkably like the well-known St. Louis Cemetery in New Orleans. The tradition there, too, is French.

J'aime beaucoup la photo du haut qui presente un tres beau contraste de lumiere. Comme tu as pu voir je suis alle en vacances pas tres loin de chez toi...

Thanks for the pix. This reminds me my grandfather is buried in Le Cateau. I need to go there some time. If you don't maintain the stone, it deteriorates. I think it matters.

ils sont très beaux, très touchant..mais en été je préfère les cimetières russes.....il y a toujours plein d'arbres et ils sont a l'ombres ;)

I like the sculpture in graveyards but it is not done nowadays. It must be too expensive.

The older cemeteries have some of the most beautiful sculptures.

I love taking photos in cemeteries. The top photo is my favorite. Beautiful statues. My last trip I visited Pere-Lachaise and this time will try to get to Montparnasse.

I do like the older cemetaries. Today nobody can erect a beautiful angel statue---must be flat for mowing. You caught the mood perfectly. MB

I very much like the angel shots. In October I hope to visit Rochester, New York, to shoot some angels in a cemetery there. (I saw them from the road last time we were there.) Your angels make me want to do it all the more. ;-)

I like the angels as well, although they all seem sad. Beautiful expressions though!

Cemeteries have their own peaceful beauty. Your angels certainly are expressive.

Vu le ciel de la 2 photo il y a du bleu; les anges une sorte de protection, sur des habitants.

Great photos of the cemetery. The grave markers in France are much more detailed and interesting than the ones we have in Oregon.

Beautiful! I especially like the 1st one. There allways are so many things in every cemetery asking to be photographed!

Really an unusual angel and yes, very touching.
Even the cross is unusual.
