La ville vue du cimetière des Gonards

Gonards cemetery offers a pretty cool panorama over the city... though not the palace, but rather Chantiers neighbourhood! The rounded glass building in the foreground of the second photo is the private hospital of Versailles-Franciscan Clinic.

Ce n'est pas toute la ville, mais plutôt le quartier de Chantiers. Le bâtiment arrondi en verre au premier plan est l'hôpital privé de Versailles-clinique des Franciscaines.

Depuis la grille royale

This, ladies and gentlemen, are the palace and its Grand Canal seen from the far end of the palace grounds near the small 'royal gate'. The Grand Canal is just under a mile long, so this should give you an idea of distance here, bearing in mind that VDP did use the zoom just a little bit... VDP liked all the tree shadows, hence the bonus photos.

Le château et le grand canal vus depuis la grille royale. La scène est très légèrement écrasée au zoom mais lorsqu'on sait que le grand canal mesure 1,5 kilomètres, eh bien cela donne une idée des distances...

Au loin, Notre-Dame

Looking towards the city and the dome of Notre-Dame de Versailles church ('Our Lady') from Marie-Antoinette's estate at Petit Trianon in the palace gardens and two views of the back of the same church from slightly closer! VDP liked the light! You had seen a slightly similar shot in 2009 here!

Un regard vers la ville et le dôme de Notre-Dame depuis le Petit Trianon et deux vues de l'église d'un peu plus près ! VDP aimait bien la lumière ! Vous aviez vu une image un peu similaire ici en 2009 !

 

La rue de la Paroisse

So yesterday we were looking right towards the market. Today we're looking left! This is rue de la Paroisse (parish street) with Notre-Dame church in the middle and the palace gardens at the very end! To see the view from the palace end, click here!

Hier nous regardions à droite vers la place du marché, aujourd'hui nous jetons un coup d'oeil à gauche ! La rue de la Paroisse est à vos pieds, avec l'église Notre-Dame au milieu et tout au bout, les jardins du château ! La vue dans l'autre sens se trouve par ici !

Les halles vues du dernier étage

Just before Christmas, VDP had a medical appointment here. Well, up from where this photo looking down on Notre-Dame market place was taken! You can see two of the four covered market buildings, the two others are out of sight on the right. There are also some outside stalls! You can see all the covered market, market and market place shots inside and out by clicking here! Tomorrow we'll look the other way!

Juste avant Noël, VDP s'est rendue à un rendez-vous médical ici. Enfin, là d'où la photo a été prise ! Voici donc deux des carrés du marché couvert Notre-Dame, les deux autres étaient hors de portée de l'objectif, sur la droite. Toutes les photos, intérieures et extérieures, des halles, du marché et de la place sont par ici ! Demain nous jetterons un coup d’œil dans l'autre sens !

November City Daily Photo Theme Day: Landmark

So... the landmark Theme is a bit easy in Versailles. You've seen the palace that millions visit every year -it is one of the if not the most visited place in the whole world-  time and time again on this blog over the past five and three quarter years... but only rarely from above! This very nice from above shot comes courtesy of VDP's friend Atelier Choco Turquoise! What you see here is a bit of Saint-Louis neighbourhood, the congress hall (the large round building, VDP had shown you the outside here) and of course, the huge palace with the royal chapel looming above it! Premier du mois, jour de thème dans la communauté des blogueurs City Daily Photo. Fastoche pour VDP ce mois-ci, puisque le thème est "repère ou monument". Vous avez vu le château un nombre incalculable de fois sur ce blog depuis cinq ans trois-quarts... mais rarement en prenant de la hauteur ! La dernière fois, c'était ici. Cette belle photo a été prise par l'Atelier Choco Turquoise ! Ce que vous voyez, c'est un p'tit bout du quartier Saint-Louis avec la Cour des Senteurs (les arbres au milieu) devant le couvent des Récollets, le palais des congrès (le grand immeuble rond dont VDP vous montrait l'extérieur ici) et bien sûr, l'immense château surplombé par la chapelle royale ! Le premier du mois, c'est la journée à thème dans la communauté mondiale des blogueurs City Daily Photo. Ce n'est pas la plus belle photo parue sur VDP mais une des rares avec un peu d'altitude et je l'aime bien. C'est la vue depuis le château vers la cathédrale Saint-Louis, éclairée par un faible rayon de soleil d'automne, publiée initialement le 5 novembre 2013. The caption is the same as yesterday's without the tree buds!: Saint-Louis neighbourhood with Saint-Louis cathedral in the foreground and the palace with the royal chapel looming above in the background!

La légende sera la même que celle d'hier, sans les bourgeons ! Le quartier Saint-Louis et la cathédrale Saint-Louis au premier plan avec, derrière, le château surplombé par la chapelle royale.

Bourgeons

Before VDP took a break, on Easter Monday to be precise, I took a walk in Versailles forest just above Saint-Louis neighbourhood. What you see here are signs of spring in the foreground (in the meantime most of the trees are now green), Saint-Louis cathedral on the right, and the palace chapel looming above the palace in the background! Tomorrow, some better views when I finally got to a hole in the trees!

Avant les vacances de VDP, le lundi de Pâques pour être précise, je me suis promenée dans la forêt domaniale de Versailles au-dessus du quartier Saint-Louis. Ce que vous voyez ici au premier plan, ce sont des bourgeons, signes de printemps (depuis ils ont éclos) ! Au second plan à droite, la cathédrale Saint-Louis et derrière, la chapelle royale qui surplombe le château. De meilleures vues demain puisque j'ai fini par trouver un trou dans les arbres !
