Les smartphones au cinéma sous les soucoupes volantes

This is inside the largest hall of Cyrano cinema and it was almost full for "the Revenant" two days after its release in France... Note the smartphones, some people (including the geezer sitting next to VDP) actually used their mobile phones during the film...

La plus grande salle du Cyrano était plutôt pleine vendredi soir pour "the Revenant" deux jours après sa sortie. Notez les smartphones, le voisin de VDP a même consulté le sien pendant le film...

Au cinoche

Before we go inside the chapel of Lycée Hoche, a small detour if that's okay with you... Last Friday evening, VDP went to see "the Revenant" at Cyrano cinema which VDP had shown you from the outside way back in February 2009, it was here. The cinema is going to undergo a huge makeover so it was high time to show you the inside!

Avant d'entrer dans la chapelle du Lycée Hoche, un petit détour... Vendredi dernier VDP est allée voir "the Revenant" au Cyrano, cinéma qu'elle vous montrait au tout début de la vie du blog, c'était ici en février 2009. Comme le cinoche va faire l'objet d'importants travaux, il était grand temps d'en montrer l'intérieur !

Oops... VDP forgot to post these final pictures of the 'the king is dead' exhibition. It is the entrance of the exhibition but also the exit... And you had seen this staircase before, it was here, albeit not draped in black. The exhibition is closing on 21 February, should you be around, go. It's superb.

Le chérubin de rive gauche

Let's take another short break from the exhibition. During last summer, Rive Gauche train station got a complete makeover... VDP thinks it looks great. The inside is very much Sun King and hall of mirrors themed...

Mon cèdre

Do you remember VDP's favourite tree? The Lebanon cedar? VDP had shown it to you and told you all about its history here. This is how splendid it looked last Saturday!

L'escalier de la préfecture

Let us return to the unfinished business of the history book show that took place inside the Préfecture building. This is the grand staircase that leads to the first floor of the building, the outside of which you can see by clicking here (and there's information about its history on that previous post too). The bust is that of MacMahon (full name Patrice de MacMahon, count of MacMahon, first duke of Magenta), a general, marshall of France and former President of France during the IIIrd Republic.

Retournons à l'intérieur de la préfecture, où ces photos de l'escalier d'apparat ont été prises lors du salon Histoire de Lire. Le buste représente Mac Mahon. VDP vous montrait la façade de la préfecture et vous en contait l'histoire ici.

 

 

La montée au jardin

For a few posts, VDP is taking you to the fairly recent public garden that now links Chantiers neighbourhood and its train station to Avenue de Sceaux and St Louis neighbourhood, enabling a much shorter walk for commuters! If you turn left just before those steps, you'll take an alley to Chantiers train station (which is itself undergoing huge works). If you walk up the stairs, you end up in the public garden.

Pour quelques jours, VDP va vous emmener au jardin des étangs Gobert. En fait, un vrai raccourci a été créé (qu'on emprunte ici à gauche avant l'escalier) entre l'avenue de Sceaux et la gare des Chantiers...

Dans le dôme de la cathédrale Saint-Louis

So yesterday's question was: where was the panorama photo taken from? Well... from up here! This is the extraordinary inside of Saint-Louis cathedral dome! Atelier Choco Turquoise who took these photos was lucky enough to be able to ascend the spire! Isn't this incredible mid-XVIIIth century craftsmanship by architect Jacques Hardouin-Mansart-de-Sagonne, the great Mansart's grandson?... To view all cathedral posts inside and out, click here! Donc la question était : d'où fut prise la photo panoramique d'hier ? Eh bien d'ici... Voici l'incroyable intérieur du dôme de la cathédrale Saint-Louis ! L'Atelier Choco Turquoise a eu la chance inouïe de pouvoir s'y rendre et a très gentiment fait profiter VDP -et vous chers lecteurs- de ces superbes photos ! Extraordinaire architecture du milieu du XVIIIème siècle, celle de Jacques Hardouin-Mansart-de-Sagonne, petit-fils du grand Mansart ! La marée jaune

I had shown you the daffs in February on Avenue de Paris. Now they are out everywhere in all their fresh, golden glory, here on Avenue de Saint-Cloud! Photos taken on 8 March.

Je vous avais montré les jonquilles de l'avenue de Paris dès février, maintenant elles sont partout dans toute leur splendeur si fraîche et si dorée, ici dans les contre-allées de l'avenue de Saint-Cloud ! Photos prises le 8 mars.

Weekend Reflections: escalier royal

At the palace: the staircase linking the princesses' apartments to the king's private rooms and a candelabra are reflected in a mirror for Weekend Reflections.

Au château, l'escalier qui relie les appartements de mesdames (les filles de Louis XV) aux petits appartements du roi et un candélabre sont reflétés dans un miroir pour les Reflets du Weekend.

Monday Mural: le kangourou

Hello from Versailles to Perth, Australia! Grace over there sometimes shows magical photos of kangaroos. This, I fear, is the closest I'll ever get in Versailles though. I had shown you the nursery of Porchefontaine neighbourhood here but for some reason hadn't crossed the street at the time. Now I have and noticed this sweetie at the bottom of the stairs! I hope this qualifies for Monday Mural!

Bonjour de Versailles à Perth en Australie ! Grace y montre parfois des photos magiques de kangourous. A priori, ces bestioles ne courent pas les rues à Versailles... Je vous avais montré la crèche de Porchefontaine ici mais à l'époque, je n'avais pas traversé la rue. Cette fois-ci, j'étais du bon côté et ai remarqué ce petit kangourou tout mignon en bas de l'escalier ! J'espère que ça vaut pour les fresques du lundi !

I know today was the first of the new 'festivals' for the CDP community. I am, however, in bed with a high fever, feeling as rough as it gets and have not had the courage to reflect on the 'then and now' theme. It is also the reason why I haven't visited your blogs, and I hope you will forgive me. This, by the way, is the staircase of the town hall.

Je sais qu'aujourd'hui est le premier des nouveaux thèmes de la communauté CDP. Je suis toutefois au lit avec une sacrée fièvre et n'ai pas eu le courage de prendre le temps de réfléchir au thème proposé. C'est également la raison pour laquelle je n'ai pas visité vos blogs, j'espère que vous me pardonnerez.

Joana Vasconcelos au château I

Arriving at Gabriel staircase in the north wing of the palace for Cecilia Bartoli's recital, we were greeted by this hanging 'sculpture'. Entitled 'Mary Poppins', it is one of Joana Vasconcelos' works exhibited until 30 September. JM of Oeiras DP said one would love or hate it. I thought it was joyful and colourful!

En arrivant à l'escalier Gabriel dans l'aile du Nord du château pour le récital de Cecilia Bartoli, nous fûmes accueillis par cette "sculpture". Intitulée "Mary Poppins", elle a été réalisée par Joana Vasconcelos et fait partie de l'exposition qui se terminera le 30 septembre. JM d'Oeiras DP m'avait dit: soit on aime, soit on déteste. Moi j'ai trouvé ça gai et rigolo.
