Weekend Reflections : au bassin du miroir

Two last shots of the musical fountains night show at the palace for Weekend Reflections, more specifically at the mirror basin. You have to imagine that the water springs, spurts and gushes in perfect tune with some beautiful baroque music! It is like a ballet!

Deux dernières photos des Grandes Eaux Nocturnes pour les Reflets du Weekend, plus spécifiquement au bassin du miroir. Il vous faut imaginer que l'eau jaillit en parfaite harmonie avec la musique baroque, telle un ballet !

Le bosquet des bains d'Apollon

This is Apollo's bath grove in the palace gardens during the musical fountains night show. Again, these photos were taken in August and I apologize for showing them so late... The three sculptures, by François Giraudon and Thomas Regnaudin, make this one of the finest groves of the gardens!

The November 1 theme for City Daily Photo bloggers is "Heights." Ouch...

Ces photos ont été prises pendant les Grandes Eaux Nocturnes en août et je vous prie de bien vouloir excuser le retard avec lequel je les poste. Les trois sculptures, œuvres de François Giraudon et Thomas Regnaudin en font l'un des plus beaux bosquets des jardins du château.

Le thème du 1er novembre pour les blogueurs City Daily Photo est "heights" (hauteurs, sommets...). Gloups...

Le feu d'artifice des grandes eaux nocturnes

The musical fountains night show ends with splendid fireworks in perfect tune with the baroque music. I had shown you a video here to give you an idea!

Les Grandes Eaux Nocturnes s'achèvent avec un feu d'artifice splendide parfaitement réglé sur la musique baroque. Je vous avais montré une vidéo ici pour vous donner une idée !

Le bosquet des dômes

This is the dome grove in the palace gardens. Unfortunately, the two domes that adorned this fountain were destroyed in 1820 but the name remains. See it with the domes by clicking here.

Malheureusement, les deux dômes qui ornaient cette fontaine ont été détruits en 1820 mais le nom est resté. Voyez les dômes en cliquant ici.

La brume

During the musical night fountains show one walks in mist in the 'ballroom grove' of the palace gardens! The pavement is gorgeous!

Lors des Grandes Eaux Nocturnes, on se promène les pieds dans la brume au bosquet de la salle de bal dans les jardins du château. Je trouve le sol divin !

Weekend Reflections: château doré

It's Friday and it's time for Weekend Reflections! The golden evening glow of the setting sun on the façade of the palace made for a fantastic reflection!

C'est vendredi, ce qui signifie que ce sont les Reflets du Weekend ! Le château se mire dans le bassin du nord à la lumière dorée du couchant !

Les colonnes de marbre

This is the colonnade I was showing you yesterday without the green lights! There are a total of 32 marble columns in this grove. There is a curtain detail on Artsy Versailles.

Voici la colonnade que je vous montrais hier, sans les lumières vertes ! Il y a un total de 32 colonnes en marbre dans ce bosquet. Il y a un détail de rideau sur Artsy Versailles.

Le bosquet de la colonnade.

This was the alien light in the colonnade grove (built by Jules Hardouin-Mansart from 1685) in the palace gardens during the musical night fountains show. I have NO clue how they do it but it was brilliant! The sculpture in the centre was executed by François Girardon and represents the abduction of Proserpina by Pluto.

Ca c'était une lumière extra-terrestre dans le bosquet de la colonnade (construit par Jules Hardouin-Mansart à partir de 1685) pendant les Grandes Eaux Nocturnes au château. Je n'ai aucune idée de comment c'est fait mais c'était top ! La sculpture au centre a été exécutée par François Girardon et représente l'enlèvement de Proserpine par Pluton.

Le bassin du char d'Apollon

This is Apollo's chariot basin. Along with Latona fountain (which is currently being restored, see it here), it is my favourite fountain in the palace gardens!

Le bassin du char d'Apollon est, avec le bassin de Latone (qui est en cours de restauration, voyez ici), ma fontaine préférée au château !

Les fables de la Fontaine sur les colonnes Morris

These inflatable Morris Columns dotted all over the alleys of the palace gardens during the musical night fountains show depict La Fontaine's fables! They lead to the mirror basin (below).

Ces colonnes Morris gonflables sont parsemées dans les allées des jardins du château pendant les Grandes Eaux Nocturnes. Elles montrent les fables de la Fontaine et mènent au bassin du miroir (ci-dessous).

Happy New Year to all of you, and happy new decade! May they be full of joy and happiness.

I checked the portal waaaayyy too late to realize that the theme had changed, so considering nothing much has changed in Versailles, here are the fireworks from the August Night Waters at the palace to celebrate the New Year and an ever deepening relationship with the man who wants to marry me... Big change in my life... someday!

Bonne année 2010 à tous, bonne nouvelle décennie, pleines de bonheur, de joie, la santé et tout et tout !

J'ai regardé le portail CDP beaucoup trop tard pour voir que le thème avait changé. Comme rien n'a véritablement changé à Versailles, voici un retour en Août aux Eaux Nocturnes pour célébrer le Nouvel An et dire à quel point ma vie a changé avec l'homme qui veut m'épouser... Grand chamboulement dans ma vie... un jour ! Désolée de ne pouvoir visiter tous vos blogs, je suis à Quimper et j'aime bien y être au Moyen Age.

Les Grandes Eaux Nocturnes VIII: vidéo du bassin de Latone

A night view of a detail of the inner courtyard of the palace, and a bonus video of Leto fountain which I have shown you here. I love the powerful sound of the water and the background baroque music, just barely audible. Bringing water and so much pressure was a huge technical feat in the day and age of Louis the 14th.

Une vue nocturne -et très partielle- de la cour intérieure du château et en bonus, une vidéo du Bassin de Latone que je vous montrais ici. J'aime le bruit puissant de l'eau et la musique baroque en fond à peine audible. Amener l'eau et surtout la pression furent une prouesse technique énorme du temps de Louis XIV.

Coquille Saint Jacques

This is a detail of the golden inner gate of the palace. The photo was taken at night, after the Water Nights. As is often the case in Europe, it depicts the scallop, symbol of the pilgrims of Santiago de Compostela in Galicia.

Cette photo a été prise de nuit, après les Eaux Nocturnes. La coquille Saint-Jacques, symbole des pèlerins de Saint Jacques de Compostelle, y est moult fois représentée.
