Looking from the Queen's hamlet's farm towards the palace. See the royal chapel looming above it right in the middle?

Un regard depuis la ferme du hameau de la reine vers le château et sa chapelle qui le surplombe.

And here's a look towards the lake from a slightly... er... more modest arch! You can just about spot the chapel if you look closely!

Et voici la vue vers le lac depuis une arche... euh... un chouïa plus modeste ! On voit tout juste la chapelle, si on regarde de près !

Entrée royale de parking

On a walk just before Christmas, VDP noticed that the underground parking entrance at Notre-Dame market had been tampered with... in a rather nice and regal way, wouldn't you say? Zooming out to see this one from the antiques district! The arch is one of the covered market entrances. This allows VDP to take part in Monday Mural! Apologies for not visiting your blogs yesterday. It was a long day in France.

En se promenant juste avant Noël, VDP a remarqué que l'entrée du parking souterrain de la place du marché Notre-Dame avait été enjolivée, de manière assez royale, vous ne trouvez pas ? Zoom arrière comme si vous veniez du quartier de la Geôle (des antiquaires). L'arche est l'une des entrées du marché. Ceci permet à VDP de participer aux Fresques du Lundi ! Mille excuses, VDP n'a pas eu le loisir de visiter vos blogs hier, la journée fut longue en France.

Carré à la farine

Mid May, a small art exhibition was held inside one of the four squares of Notre-Dame covered market, the one called 'flour square', the only one where you can't buy food and which is often used for exhibitions. You have seen bits of the buildings of the covered market several times, here's one of the better views of a couple of them (the smaller buildings). Anyway, the problem here was the 'no photographing' the artwork sign that you can clearly see on the door to the right of the photo. But it gives me a chance to show you the inside of the first floor of the covered market!

Mi-mai, une petite exposition d'art s'est tenue à l'intérieur de l'un des quatre carrés des halles Notre-Dame, le carré à la farine, le seul où on ne peut acheter de la nourriture et qui est souvent utilisé pour des expos. Vous avez vu les halles plusieurs fois, notamment ici (les petits bâtiments). Le problème c'est l'affiche "interdiction de photographier" les œuvres que vous pouvez reconnaître sur la porte de gauche. Mais néanmoins, cela me donne l'occasion de vous montrer l'intérieur du premier étage des halles !

Petit panorama

Avenue de Paris on Wednesday evening, under a clear blue sky (unfortunately I couldn't get the moon to fit in this photo). It was rather on the chilly side. What you see here is the town hall on the left and the Sofitel Pullman Hotel on the right, hiding behind the restored arch I have shown you here.

Avenue de Paris mercredi soir, sous un beau ciel bleu (malheureusement je n'ai pas pu cadrer la photo de telle sorte que la lune y apparaisse). Il faisait un peu frisquet. Ce que vous voyez, c'est l'hôtel de ville à gauche et l'hôtel Sofitel Pullman à droite, caché derrière l'arche restaurée que je vous montrais ici.

Enfilade

Looking towards the palace (through the second arch) from the king's stables, now housing la Maréchalerie, Versailles' contemporary art centre and architecture school. I waited, in vain, for the car to move...

Un regard vers le château (juste visible au travers de la deuxième arche) depuis les petites écuries du roi qui abritent la Maréchalerie, le centre d'art contemporain et l'école d'architecture. J'ai attendu, en vain, que la voiture bouge...

L'arche restaurée

The arch that allows entrance to the Sofitel Pullman hotel on Avenue de Paris has been wonderfully restored. It is all that is left of what was once the artillery riding school under Napoléon III. The gate is all that remains of the building of 1854.

L'entrée de l'hôtel Sofitel Pullman se situe tout près du château sur l'avenue de Paris et se fait par l'arche du portail de 1854. Il constituait l'entrée des anciens manèges d'artillerie de Napoléon III.

Les manèges

This arch is all that is left of the riding school that was built in 1855 where generations of cavalry officers have been trained.

Cette arche est tout ce qui reste du manège construit en 1855 "où de nombreux cavaliers ont été préparés au service des armes à cheval pour la défense de la patrie" dixit la plaque.
