Potager... une vue d'oiseau

Two last shots by Atelier Choco Turquoise today, still taken from the dome of Saint-Louis cathedral at the end of September. This time it's the King's Kitchen Garden, which VDP had shown you from down there a few times. You can see the photos and read about it here!

Hyper Versailles de Jean-François Rauzier

Those of you who have been following VDP know that there are often street photo exhibitions. These photos of the palace and the Academy of Equestrian Show by Jean-François Rauzier are to be seen on the walls of the King's veg garden. Aren't they amazing?

Ceux d'entre vous qui suivent VDP savent qu'il y a souvent des expos photos dans la rue. Ces photos de Jean-François Rauzier du château et de l'Académie du Spectacle Equestre  sont exposées sur les murs du Potager du Roi.

Wednesday Doorway: l'Ecole Nationale d'Horticulture

Today's doorway is the entrance of the National School of Horticulture, founded in 1874 and located right next to the King's vegetable garden (for all posts on said garden, click on the 'potager' label below).

In June, I had taken you to the King's vegetable garden's shop but most of the organic produce had already been sold. Yesterday was quite another story. Here's what was on sale, and below, what I bought: rhubarb nectar made in Versailles, plums, peaches, basil, parsley and New-Zealand spinach, all produced here in Versailles. Je vous avais emmenés au magasin du Potager du Roi en juin dernier mais un dimanche il ne restait pas grand chose. Hier, au contraire, le magasin était bien achalandé, tellement bien que voici ce que j'y ai acheté: du nectar de rhubarbe made in Versailles, des prunes, des pêches, du basilic, du persil et de la tétragone, ou épinard de Nouvelle-Zélande, le tout bio et produit au Potager. Le directeur de l'Ecole Nationale du Paysage

This lovely statue and fountain stands in the King's Vegetable Garden as a tribute to A. Hardy, former director of the National School of Landscaping, which is situated next to the garden. As from today until Monday, VDP will be on automatic mode as I will be in Burgundy. Have a great weekend!

Cette jolie statue et fontaine s'élève dans le Potager du Roi en mémoire d'A. Hardy, qui fut directeur de l'Ecole Nationale du Paysage qui jouxte le potager. A partir d'aujourd'hui jusqu'à lundi, VDP sera en mode automatique. Pour ma part, je serai en Bourgogne. Bon weekend !

Le magasin du Potager du roi

All the seasonal produce -mostly organic- of the King' Vegetable garden are on sale in this quaint little shop where you can also find a good selection of gardening books. Best time to go? Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday mornings. When I took this photo, all that was left was some rhubarb (that ended up in my kitchen!), some lettuce and parsley.

Tous les produits, essentiellement bio et parfaitement de saison, du Potager du Roi sont en vente au magasin, où l'on trouve également une bonne sélection de livres de jardinage. Meilleurs moments pour s'y rendre ? Les mardi, jeudi et samedi matins ! Quand j'ai pris ces photos, il ne restait qu'un peu de rhubarbe (qui a fini en compote dans ma cuisine), de la laitue et un peu de persil.

Monsieur de la Quintinie

This is the creator of the King's vegetable garden, Jean-Baptiste de la Quintinie (1624-1688), standing watching the plants grow. A gardener and agronomist, he imagined the garden and made it happen in an area that was nothing but marshes.

Cathédrale Saint-Louis et poiriers

Saint-Louis cathedral seen through promising pear trees at the king's vegetable garden, not far from the Orangerie. It is a wonderful place, created between 1678 and 1683 that has for the most part remained as it was then. You can read all about it by clicking here. Below are some of the pear varieties that are found in Versailles.

La cathédrale Saint-Louis, vue au travers de poiriers qui promettent une belle récolte au Potager du Roi, non loin de l'Orangerie.
