Je craque !

This has got to be the sweetest photo ever on VDP (though there had been this other little girl and also 'the pink boots')! I spotted these little darlings on Saturday while walking away from the flower market where as you can see, the chrysanthemums are ready to be put on graves for All Saints.

C'est sans doute la plus mimi des photos jamais publiées sur VDP (encore qu'il y avait eu cette petite fille et celle avec les bottes roses) ! J'ai vu ces petites puces samedi en m'éloignant du marché aux fleurs où, comme vous le constaterez, on est fin prêts pour la Toussaint !

So Tuesday was All Saint's. I went to Notre-Dame cemetary on Saturday in the hope of seeing the usual All Saint's sea of chrysanthemums. Instead, some old tombs caught my eye...

La Toussaint approche

At the flower market, not only can you see it's autumn, but you also know that 1 November is getting closer as chrysanthemums make their appearance. Traditionally, French graveyards and cemeteries are graced with these flowers on 1 November, Allsaints.

Cimetière des Gonards II

What makes cemeteries nice around All Saints, is the bloom of chrysanthemums, which is the traditional flower at this time of the year. The undertakers have them all ready for sale at the entrance of the cemetery.

Ce qui rend les cimetières jolis à la Toussaint, ce sont ces myriades de chrysanthèmes que l'on peut acquérir aux pompes funèbres à l'entrée du cimetière.

Cimetière des Gonards I

Yesterday was All Saints, so on Saturday I took a walk in Gonards cemetary, one of the largest in the country with about 12 000 tombs, and a few celebrities, amongst which Edith Wharton. I'll have to go back, I didn't find her tomb. Good thing I went on Saturday, because Sunday we had our first real autumn storm 2009.

Pour la Toussaint, samedi je me suis promenée dans le cimetière des Gonards (pas de jeux de mots svp !) C'est l'un des plus vastes du pays, avec environ 12 000 tombes et quelques célébrités, dont Edith Wharton, que je n'ai pas trouvées. Il faudra donc que j'y retourne...
