We've had a few lovely days mid-March... Though still cool, it was possible to sit outside to have a drink. These photos were taken Avenue Nepveu with the palace in the background of the first three shots, Saint-Louis cathedral in the fourth one. The last shot is the avenue VDP had shown you waiting for spring scenes from Avenue Nepveu here and there, this last one less than a month after VDP began...

Bon lundi de Pâques ! Mi-mars, quelques belles journées, quoique encore fraîches... Photos prises un samedi en fin de journée. VDP vous avait montré l'attente du printemps Avenue Nepveu ici et là...

June City Daily Photo Theme Day: Stylish

 

June... Hopefully sunnier and warmer than May was here though as you can see, this last Saturday was a lovely day! It's the first of the month and Theme Day in the City Daily Photo blogging community. On Saturday afternoon, Henri Buffetaut (whose website 'my little shooting' is this way) was busy photographing model Coline Rabiosa. She was standing on the steps of Saint-Louis cathedral wearing an absolutely delightfully ethereal, elegant and very stylish 'Le Dressing Club' wedding gown ! Juin... on espère que ce mois sera plus ensoleillé et surtout plus chaud que ne le fut mai, quoique samedi dernier il a fait beau ! C'est le premier du mois et cela signifie journée de thème dans la communauté des blogueurs City Daily Photo. Vous l'aurez compris en lisant le titre du billet, le thème est "stylé, élégant". Henri Buffetaut, photographe dont la page web est par ici, était en train de photographier Coline Rabiosa sur les marches de la cathédrale Saint-Louis. Elle porte une robe aérienne, élégante et stylée du "Dressing Club" ! Pour voir toutes les interprétations du thème dans des villes du monde entier, c'est par là ! Au café la pêche

Evening atmosphere at the new place to be in town: the café la pêche (roughly, the fisher's café). It's a bit of an institution in Versailles, and the former café (which VDP had shown you here in 2009) actually used to sell fishing rods and tackle! It has changed owners last year and has become very trendy! That's Saint-Louis cathedral in the background!

Ambiance du soir au café la pèche. Dans l'ancien, que VDP vous montrait ici en 2009, il était effectivement possible d'acheter de l'équipement de pêche. Désormais c'est devenu un café branché, juste à côté de la cathédrale Saint-Louis et sa page Facebook est par là !

April City Daily Photo Theme Day: my camera shy self portrait

Last Saturday, with a fresh haircut, VDP was in Montreuil neighbourhood saying hello to famous Versaillais Ferdinand de Lesseps! A glimpse of VDP for April fools' day -er, no sorry, for April City Daily Photo Theme day! I'm sure you all know that the man built the Suez canal and that he worked on the Panama canal, right? Samedi dernier, les cheveux fraîchement coupés, à Montreuil, un petit salut au versaillais Ferdinand de Lesseps que VDP vous avait déjà montré il y a fort longtemps, c'était ici. Non ce n'est pas un poisson d'avril, c'est un "selfie pour ceux n'aimant pas être pris en photo". Samuel Kummer à Saint-Louis pour le carême

Last Sunday a Lent organ concert was held in Saint-Louis cathedral. The cathedral's great organ was commissioned by Louis XV in 1759 and executed by Louis-Alexandre and François-Henri Clicquot. 12x10 metres (39.37x38.8 ft), it weighs 53 tonnes (116845lb) and has 3131 tubes (VDP had shown it to you before)! It is a wondrous joy to listen to, especially as the guest star of the concert was Samuel Kummer, chief organist of the famous Frauenkirche in Dresden (Germany), who marvellously played four hands with his wife, Irena Renata. VDP isn't a great Camille Saint-Saëns fan so patiently sat through his Carnival of the Animals (admittedly masterfully interpreted) before thoroughly enjoying some Johann-Sebastian Bach, whose 330rd birthday (plus one day) was thus celebrated in Versailles! The concert gave VDP an opportunity to take a few detailed shots of the splendid organ... To listen to Bach interpreted by S. Kummer in his church of Dresden, click here.

Dimanche dernier, le concert d'orgue de carême avait lieu en la cathédrale Saint-Louis. Le grand orgue (que VDP vous avait déjà montré) fut commandé par Louis XV en 1759 et exécuté par Louis-Alexandre et François-Henri Clicquot. Il mesure 10 x 12 mètres, pèse 53 tonnes et compte 3131 tuyaux répartis en 46 jeux sur 3 claviers et pédalier. C'est un grand bonheur de pouvoir l'entendre résonner, surtout que dimanche, l'organiste invité n'était autre que Samuel Kummer, l'organiste titulaire de la célèbre Frauenkirche de Dresde qui joua à quatre mains avec son épouse, Irena Renata. VDP n'est pas une énorme fan de Camille Saint-Saëns et attendit donc patiemment durant son carnaval des animaux pourtant magistralement interprété, pour pouvoir pleinement apprécier Jean-Sébastien Bach, célébrant ainsi à Versailles avec un jour de retard le 330ème anniversaire de naissance du compositeur. Brume

Some days start out really foggy. Actually, sometimes the fog lingers until well after noon and it gives backlit life an almost black and white feel... What you are seeing here is the view from the north wing of the palace across the honour courtyard towards Saint-Louis cathedral (yes, that'd be the dome there approximately in the middle). These photos have been taken from more or less the same spot as this one had.

Certains jours commencent bien embrumés et parfois la brume ne finit par se lever qu'à l'heure du déjeuner, donnant à la vie à contre-jour un petit air de noir et blanc... Ce que vous voyez ici, c'est la vue depuis l'aile des ministres du château sur la cour d'honneur vers la cathédrale Saint-Louis. Ces photos ont été prises quasiment du même endroit que ne l'avait été celle-ci.

La chapelle des catéchismes, dite "de la Providence"

A couple of months ago, for the first time VDP had the opportunity to visit the small chapel adjacent to Saint-Louis cathedral. It was built in 1760-64 by Louis-François Trouard after the cathedral was finished. VDP adores the coffer (ceiling)!

Il y a quelques temps, VDP a eu pour la première fois l'occasion d'entrer dans la chapelle jouxtant la cathédrale Saint-Louis et construite par Louis-François Trouard (qui construira plus tard l'église Saint-Symphorien). Weekend Reflections: Saint-Louis et le Hobbit

Saint-Louis cathedral (the dome on the right in the first picture) and a nice winter sky are reflected in the Hobbit billboard! 'The Battle of the Five Armies' was released on Wednesday! More Weekend Reflections are this way! Incidentally, these photos were taken during a walk with James!

So yesterday's question was: where was the panorama photo taken from? Well... from up here! This is the extraordinary inside of Saint-Louis cathedral dome! Atelier Choco Turquoise who took these photos was lucky enough to be able to ascend the spire!
