April CDP Theme Day: the beauty of simplicity

Bâtiment archives Bibliothèque Nationale Versailles rue Montbauron
April... First of the month and it's Theme Day in the City Daily Photo blogging community! There aren't all that many simple things in Versailles and that's a bit of an understatement. This building (it is actually composed of three buildings) once housed the repository of documents of the French National Library. It is to be sold next year. More pictures of the buildings can be seen here (by scrolling to the bottom of the page). Now VDP isn't sure that these façades are beautiful but they certainly are simple for Versailles standards...  To see all this month's Theme Day interpretations, click here! Happy April and of course, April fools day!!!

Bon mois d'avril !

At my age simplicity has become a necessity. Very nice shots.

Much to be said for simple things and simple days. Nicely done.

They have something of a monolithic feel.

They are as much stark as simple. Let's see, remembering how to read Roman numerals. The first one is 1968?

I've never been to Versaille, but I agree I've seen few pictures of anything simple. You met the challenge and found something appropriate for the theme.

Simply beautiful! The last shoot is a bit eerie - like some space alien sizing up the area.

What I find beautiful is the blue sky! I'm sick of gray. :)

I remember thinking exactly that when we were there Ciel, so unusual to find an unadorned building :) I like your perspective here but I'm sure you are enjoying the blue sky even more!

I think you chose wisely. Very simple fronts to these buildings.

Simple and beautiful, but not my favorite year...

Einfache Dinge sind nicht immer einfach zu finden, hier hast Du es geschafft ! :)

I like the angles in both your photographs. I would never have guessed what sort of buildings they were. Reminds me of an American department store facade.

They are certainly far more austere than the average Versailles building!

A very striking image, Ciel!

They are beautiful in their unusual-ness.

Very nice choice for the theme!

I hadn't thought that for some places, like Versailles and maybe Venice and Florence, the concept of "simple" was banished several centuries ago.

You are right. Simply facades.
