La "fresque" du Ch******

A regal feel to a supermarket in Grand Siècle neighbourhood with this palace "fresco" greeting shoppers!
-------------------------------

An interesting idea and an unusual sight. I met the rudest cashier of my shopping life at the Champion in rue Monge. I dropped my shopping there and walked away...

Lovely with the sign and the big plan of the palace. I assume the Grand Siecle was the one in which the palace was built! It looks like it's been raining again. Nice exposure!

The "fesco" certain adds an air of regality as does the psuedo Versailles planter boxes.

Another very nice night shot, Ciel. I'm assuming Champion is part of a large chain of supermarkets. This is one photo you have to enlarge to get the impact. The fresco is beautifully done and captures well the essence of the Palace areas!

I assume they have regal prices to match. But which is the "great century"?

Very nice night shot. I'm sure with the fresco of the palace they charge a kingly ransom for items.

We are all champions if we don't believe in losing. :)

I like the fresco. Anything to make the environment not so conformist. By the way thank you again for your thoughtful comments on my blog regarding war. On that note have you ever heard of or seen Le Chagrin et la Pitie directed by Marcel Ophuls 1971. It will give you a different perspective on how some French people viewed Hitler and the German occupation. I'd love to hear you comments.

@ all: for an explanation as to the Grand Siècle, click on the link in the post. And the prices are perfectly normal!

@ Jacob: yes, a chain.

@ VP: shhhht. That is NOT politically correct. Supermarket cashiers are very stressed out people so cannot always be nice. That is the pc way of putting it here.

I've not seen anything like this before, it looks good.

How interesting. Good night shot--but the supermarket idea is amazing. MB

I love that second shot, your perfect composition with neon and the shadows and lights.
This market looks cool and they had a great idea about that "fresco".

Your photos today are superb, and how regal a shopping experience.

By coincidence, I have a supermarket posted on my site today, but it is a much more ordinary photo. However, it about a week I have scheduled to post a photo of a mural painted on the wall of a home improvement store. Just like your mural is fitting for Versailles, the store mural that I have scheduled to post has a Costa Rican flair.

A very nice treatment of the windows! «Louis» remembers the Champion stores from when he lived in France.

You even have art at the supermarket. Fantastic.

The mural looks very interesting. Not so sure the red neon letters enhance it. :)

Looks like this supermarket knows how to market itself by making its customers feel special yet charge normal prices.

Ciel, I've loved Tour St-Jacques since I first saw it in the early 1970s, and it was black then! I've seen it since, but it was certainly glowing and beautiful in 2008. Thanks for the report on the restoration. Also, of course I loved your story, although I'm sure it wasn't funny at the time. I now wonder how we managed our meetings with people before cell phones. I'm so spoiled, I'll even call a person I went to the store with if I can't find them in the store (if it's a big store . . . I'm not THAT bad at finding people :)

I do not have any particular feeling for or against Champion. But it is nice of them to decorate for the season.

PS: Is the Grand Siecle that huge shopping center in Versailles? I remember there was a giant "centre commercial" in Versailles during my student days. It was the biggest I've ever seen in France anyway.

Bergson said...

cieldequimper said...

@ ciel - I am not a pc guy and was not alone walking away that day... She was not stressed, only lazy and despondent.

If you have a palace like that, it should be "frescoed" everywhere!
