Depuis la grille royale

Château de Versailles vu de la grille royale
This, ladies and gentlemen, are the palace and its Grand Canal seen from the far end of the palace grounds near the small 'royal gate'. The Grand Canal is just under a mile long, so this should give you an idea of distance here, bearing in mind that VDP did use the zoom just a little bit... VDP liked all the tree shadows, hence the bonus photos.

Le château et le grand canal vus depuis la grille royale. La scène est très légèrement écrasée au zoom mais lorsqu'on sait que le grand canal mesure 1,5 kilomètres, eh bien cela donne une idée des distances...

Oh, thank you. I wanted to walk all the way to the end but we didn't have enough time. There was never enough time to do all the things we wanted to do when we visited Paris! :(

After checking out all the highlights on the palace grounds I'd guess the average tourist would drop before choosing to hike the full distance in this shot. I do like the bonus photos!

VDP I so agree with you about the shadows, They offer a great deal to the distant building.

I never realized the size of the grounds nor that the canal was ~1 mile long. It looks like a great place to get lost and I'm sure there re plenty of opportunities to escape the crowds.

Amazing photos! I think the second one is my favorite. If my dad had seen those photos, he'd say something like "I'd hate to mow that lawn".

Sharon's comment made me smile :) This is a one mile walk that I would loooove to do! The tree shadows are a delight to see.

Are people allowed to swim in the canal during the summertime? It sure looks like it!

That would be quite a walk. I wouldn't be surprised if people regularly make that walk part of their daily routine.
