Août à Versailles I

It is August and Versailles sort of comes to a standstill as far as independent shops are concerned...

It was a shock years ago to be in busy Paris on July 31 one year and then see it go to sleep the next day.

I do love how everyone takes August off - Americans really need to learn to do that! I especially like that chalkboard sign - hope you might get a quiet month yourself? :)

These signs made up a very interesting phenomenon. This is a great way to deliver a message

The way it should be, people need time off to 'destress'.

A familiar situation; it does happen almost the same here!

It doesn't happen much here. But I wish it did, because that would mean we could all take long vacations!

I have heard this is what happens. I wish it would happen here. Well, it does, a bit. Our area and golf course has become a bit quieter. Finally!

L'un des avantages de vivre dans un lieu touristique, les commerces ne ferment pas, du moins pas l'ete.

Same here. It's that month I don't want to break a tooth, even my dentist is on vacation! :-)

J'adore the way the French stop everything for vacations..my favourite French patisserie here in Perth, Francoise, always closes for vacances..I miss my pastries sooo much, but love that they follow tradition!
If it only takes 30 minutes Ciel, do you travel to Paris very often?

@ Olivier: et même dans certains quartiers de Paris.

@ JM: ha, same here. No doctors, no dentists, no physiotherapists, nobody.

Wow! Nothing closes down that much here!

I"ve been in Paris the end of July and had a hard time finding a cafe open. One wonders why some don't stay and rack up the euros!!!
