Théâtre Montansier

I am slightly ashamed that it took me over three years to show you the façade of Versailles' theatre where you can enjoy an eclectic variety of shows from classic or modern plays to jazz or classical music. The website is this way. Created by Mademoiselle Montansier, the theatre was inaugurated on 18 November 1777 with Louis XVI and Marie-Antoinette in attendance. It has undergone almost constant renovation since 1834. In 1992, the original structure of wood and plaster was sinking into the marshy soil as the wooden pillars rotted and was rebuilt in concrete. At the end of the XXth century, it was directed by Francis Perrin, a famous French actor and native of Versailles.

Drat!! Almost first haha! Even though the building has had so much restoration, it's still amazing to think Louis XV1 enjoyed a performance here accompanied by Marie Antoinette, beautifully shown Ciel..Enjoy your weekend.

Um, the city could change the name to the Mustard Theater. Did I hear correctly the the official French Language Police are doing away with the word mademoiselle?

Wow. Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette. That's a wonderful history for this building. It is so amazing that his building is still being used as it was originally--as a theater. While the material may not be original, the heart of the building is.

Nice to have live theater without having to go into Paris. I presume Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette sat in a Royal box. That would be a thrill to sit in the same box.

Don't be ashamed, I think it happens to us all. Sometimes I think of all the iconic places I still haven't posted one single photo in more than three years! LOL!

P.S. I'll be glued to the tv later in the evening! :-)

We are not in a hurry :-)

It's a magnificent theater and has been preserved for generations to come.

That's funny, it doesn't look like a theater! ;-)

Nice building, though, and terrific evening colors. One has to wonder what's going on behind those windows!

Gorgeous old building restored or renovated, as long as it is still in use. The colors in those windows look magnificent.
