A couple of months ago, for the first time VDP had the opportunity to visit the small chapel adjacent to Saint-Louis cathedral. It was built in 1760-64 by Louis-François Trouard after the cathedral was finished. VDP adores the coffer (ceiling)!

Here it is next to the cathedral. You had seen a better view of its gorgeous door and of Augustin Pajou's bas-relief above it here, in the snow!

This place looks like a small museum...it gorgeous. And I also like the ceiling! From the way it's set up, I would guess the small chapel would not be used to say mass.

It is beautiful and grand... but also has a quiet intimacy to it.

That ceiling could make a great giant jello mold.

One is consoled by this beauty in the face of the ugliness that has just struck France.

Words. All we have at our disposal today, are words. Right now they are inadequate.

It would be difficult to pay attention during the service, too many distractions :-)
