Le grand commun rénové

The Great Commons building, right next to the palace on Avenue of the American Independence, was built by Jules Hardouin-Mansart to house the king's staff and administration as well as army officers. It was later used as a military hospital in the XIXth and XXth centuries. It has undergone renovation which is now almost finished! (VDP had shown it to you during renovation works here).

I love all those carvings around the entrance to this building. Beautiful.

Fancy timepiece and nice building.

It may be renewed but it hasn't lost any of it's character. Sometimes I wonder about the decorative human features like those around the clock. Okay, the putti are traditional, but what's the face at the top supposed to represent?
