Often thought about following that route to Santiago de Compostella, it would make a fascinating trip I feel sure. Thanks for the reminder, better find my boots... :o)

I didn't think about the scallop until you pointed it out. I remember the story from guidebooks I used to read. It's one of my favorite stories, because of continuity of a theme. I didn't realize people were still making that pilgrimage, though.
There was certainly a different attitude toward body weight until the last few decades. It used to be a mark of wealth and prestige - you had to be rich to eat that much. Now even the poor can be fat. So goes the march of civilization.

Such beautiful detail. I've just come from meeting my great-nephew and these little nursing cherubs make me miss the new little one in our lives all the more.
Its really amazing how many thousands of stories can be told on the facades of buildings through their graphic representations and symbols that they carefully depict and employ to capture the viewers imagination.
When I was in Versailles last July, it was great to recognize this church from your posts.
