Détails de la façade de Notre-Dame

Details of the façade of Notre-Dame church. Again, the scallop is present here. I have explained about it in this post. To view all photos of the church, click on the label below.

Ici, une fois de plus, se trouve la coquille Saint Jacques, dont j'expliquais la signification ici. Pour voir toutes les photos de Notre-Dame, cliquez sur le tag ci-dessous.

Often thought about following that route to Santiago de Compostella, it would make a fascinating trip I feel sure. Thanks for the reminder, better find my boots... :o)

There's so much history in France it makes my head hurt! And I'm a history buff! Sort of.

Such ornateness on the churches...I'll bet the deity is impressed!

Actually, the carvings are quite spectacular.

Have a bon weekend!

Tres jolis details. J'aime beaucoup le cadrage de la 1ere.

I didn't think about the scallop until you pointed it out. I remember the story from guidebooks I used to read. It's one of my favorite stories, because of continuity of a theme. I didn't realize people were still making that pilgrimage, though.

There was certainly a different attitude toward body weight until the last few decades. It used to be a mark of wealth and prestige - you had to be rich to eat that much. Now even the poor can be fat. So goes the march of civilization.

Such beautiful detail. I've just come from meeting my great-nephew and these little nursing cherubs make me miss the new little one in our lives all the more.

Its really amazing how many thousands of stories can be told on the facades of buildings through their graphic representations and symbols that they carefully depict and employ to capture the viewers imagination.

When I was in Versailles last July, it was great to recognize this church from your posts.

Je rêve de faire un jour la route de Compostelle. Pas par devotion, mais pour le plaisir de marcher, le long d'un chemin qui a du sens.
(et d'un point de vue linguistique, traduire coquille par scallop m'a toujours intriguée..Ü)
Bon week end!

Nice detail. It should inspire me to post some of the renovated sculptures on York Minster's main door.

Cute cherubs and interesting info about the scallops. . . I find this old works to be so magnificent that it has lasted through the centuries so well.

«Louis» is enjoying the details of the church you are posting; the drawback being he wishes he could bring Mme la Vache and the two of them head off to la belle France immédiatement!
