Cheval de bois

There are new horses to play on in the small playground of Place Hoche! Note that there is a child there, not just Daddy! Though VDP has shown the square several times, the best general view can be seen here in a snowstorm!

Il y a de nouveaux chevaux de bois place Hoche ! Notez qu'il y a bien un enfant dessus, pas seulement un papa ! VDP a plusieurs fois montré la place Hoche, la meilleure vue générale c'était ici dans une tempête de neige !

Le printemps

After a mild but grey winter, a warm spring as soon as 8 March meant that the café tables were out everywhere and it was good to feel the warm sunshine!

Après un hiver doux mais gris, le printemps chaud dès le 8 mars a permis de profiter des doux rayons du soleil aux tables des cafés !

L'Abbé de l'Epée observe le parvis de Saint-Louis

Two very different atmospheres on Place Saint-Louis. These photos were taken on the same day, about one hour apart last week. What you see here is the back of the statue of Charles-Michel de L'Epée, born in Versailles in 1712. He is the person who laid some of the foundations of sign language  and was one of the first men to consider deaf people as perfectly normal and capable of communication. Click here to see the statue from the front. The building on the right is Saint-Louis cathedral.

Deux atmosphères très différentes place Saint-Louis. Ces photos ont été prises le même jour de la semaine dernière, à environ une heure d'intervalle. Ce que vous voyez ici, c'est la statue de Charles-Michel de l'Epée, né à Versailles en 1712, dont la statue se trouve à côté de la cathédrale Saint-Louis. C'est à cet homme que les sourds doivent d'être traités normalement, ainsi que l'initialisation du langage des signes. Cliquez ici pour voir la statue de face. Le bâtiment à droite, c'est bien sûr la cathédrale Saint-Louis.

L'automne place Hoche

June City Daily Photo Theme Day: The beauty of decay

The above sight on Place Charost is no more. This photo was actually taken a while back and was waiting to be published and hey presto, Theme Day came along! I don't know whether it qualifies for the 'beauty' of decay and perhaps it is a very conventional interpretation of the theme but I like it. Ce lieu de la place Charost n'est plus. Cette photo a été prise il y a déjà un moment et attendait sagement d'être publiée, voilà que le thème de la communauté des City Daily Photo me permet de la mettre en valeur ! La photo de gauche montre le même lieu il y a une quinzaine de jours. Je n'ai pas eu l'occasion d'y retourner pour voir ce qu'il est devenu ! Aux Mousquetaires

I had shown you this building, "the musketeers" in a rather derelict state here. Last year, I had shown you how the renovation works were hidden by street art. That was here. So what do you think of the new façade? Oh and this pic was taken on Saturday when it started snowing. If you enlarge the photo and look at the top, you'll see a few snowflakes!

Je vous avais montré cet immeuble dans un état assez tristounet ici, puis l'année dernière l'art urbain qui cachait les travaux ici. Que pensez-vous de la nouvelle façade ? Ah, cette photo a été prise samedi quand il a commencé à neiger. Si vous agrandissez la photo, vous verrez quelques flocons en haut !

Place Hoche

In one of the first posts of VDP which you can see here, I showed you the trees on Place Hoche. I couldn't help another shot!

Avant - après

VP of Livorno DP sometimes shows comparisons between then and now, which gave me this idea. This opaque watercolour by Larouzière (which is a postcard I photographed) shows Avenue Nepveu with the palace chapel on the left. The scene below, though not the exact replica was caught on 14 January...

J'ai hésité et opté pour de l'orange ! Deux de mes photos préférées de 2011, en haut le coucher de soleil sur la statue équestre de Louis XIV et dessous, le reflet du soleil sur la place du marché Notre-Dame après l'orage. BONNE ANNEE à tous et toutes !

Ombres

Nice shadows on this house at the top of Avenue de Sceaux also seen from further away to the left of the second photo. -------------------------------------- Jolies ombres sur cette maison en haut de l'Avenue de Sceaux, vue de plus loin en bas à gauche.

Courbe

Both the statues of André Le Nôtre and Jules Hardouin-Mansart (posted the day before yesterday) stand on a round place between Avenue of the United States and Avenue de Saint-Cloud, a curvy detail of which I am showing you today.

Treacherous slush

Coming home from grocery shopping on Place Charost last Saturday. The little old lady made it safely to the other end of the street.

To answer some of your questions, snow in the north of France shouldn't be something unusual though it seems to have become so... Last time we had this much snow was in 2005. Let's say we enjoy it very much so long as it doesn't entail absolute chaos -which it often does!

Today incidentally we have gale force winds and temperatures are on the rise. Strange sudden weather changes...
