Gonards cemetery offers a pretty cool panorama over the city... though not the palace, but rather Chantiers neighbourhood! The rounded glass building in the foreground of the second photo is the private hospital of Versailles-Franciscan Clinic.

Ce n'est pas toute la ville, mais plutôt le quartier de Chantiers. Le bâtiment arrondi en verre au premier plan est l'hôpital privé de Versailles-clinique des Franciscaines.

Looking back down from the top of the escalator that you took yesterday at Chantiers railway station (were you smiling?!) towards Saint Elisabeth of Hungary church and Versailles' wheat mills on the left! VDP had told you about the church and its fairly recent history here. The second shot was taken from the church just opposite the mills (les moulins) towards the escalator, can you spot it?

Just a street scene outside Chantiers train station...

96 mètres et 650 tonnes

A new temporary skyline in Versailles! The highest crane in Europe, no less than 96 metres (roughly 315 ft) high and weighing a staggering 650 tonnes (1433004 lbs) has been a guest at Chantiers railway station for some heavy duty lifting of a bridge, part of the complete refurbishment of the station. VDP missed the real action because she was tied up elsewhere but still, that thing here next to the 'normal' crane, is the tallest one in Europe! Une nouvelle vue à Versailles, fût-elle temporaire ! La plus haute grue d'Europe était l'invitée d'honneur des travaux en cours à la gare de Chantiers pour le grutage d'une passerelle. VDP a raté la grue en action parce qu'elle était occupée ailleurs mais voici néanmoins deux photos de l'engin, à côté d'une grue classique. Londres ?

Not so very long ago, Geoff in Wanstead posted a great Spitalfields (East London) Jack the Ripper style photo. This is as close as VDP can get to that kind of feeling! It's the alley that leads to Versailles' wheat mills which you had seen here. It really does look a bit like a London mews or close, especially with that white door!

Il n'y a pas si longtemps, Geoff à Wanstead postait une super photo de Spitalfields dans l'Est londonien, un cliché de type Jack l'Eventreur. VDP trouve que cet endroit est sans doute ce qu'il a y de plus approchant de l'atmosphère du célèbre tueur en série de la fin du XIXè siècle. Il s'agit de la rue privée des Moulins de Versailles que vous aviez vus ici. Avec cette porte blanche, on dirait vraiment presque un mews londonien !

This gorgeous rose pergola stands at the bottom of the street leading to Chantiers railway station. Though I understand the need to inform about what's happening in the city, especially during Le Nôtre year, I still think it's a bit of a shame to have put these boards up to partially spoil the view from ground level!

Cette ravissante pergola de roses s'élève en bas de la rue qui mène à la gare des Chantiers. Bien que je comprenne la nécessité d'informer sur les événements de la ville, surtout en cette année Le Nôtre, je trouve dommage d'avoir ainsi en partie caché les fleurs !

Square des Chantiers

Square des Chantiers playground. Those who have been following VDP for a while know that June is Molière month, honoring the great playwright with a great many theatrical events all over the city. On 17 June, I decided to check out a couple of them. When I arrived at the first venue, nothing, the gates were closed. I had a look at the programme and came to this square. Nothing either. I don't know what happened, why the plays were cancelled even though for once, it wasn't raining... I had intended to try again yesterday but the pouring rain and the cold got the better of me...

Ceux qui suivent VDP depuis longtemps savent que le mois de juin est le Mois Molière avec de nombreux événements de théâtre, théâtre amateur, musique... Le 17 juin, j'ai voulu aller voir une pièce. Lorsque je suis arrivée au Lycée Notre-Dame de Grandchamp à 15 h, rien. Du coup, j'ai repris le programme et me suis rendue ici, au square des Chantiers. Rien non plus... Je ne sais pas ce qui s'est passé ni à quoi sont dues ces annulations d'autant que pour une fois, il ne pleuvait pas, contrairement à hier où des trombes d'eau et le froid ont eu raison de mes velléités d'aller en quête de théâtre...

Oooh, I loved this red in Chantiers neighbourhood! I wouldn't want to have to go back to my student days and the waiting at the launderette! A question: am I the only one that had a mandatory field asking for my birthdate in order to access my Blogger dashboard?

J'adore, mais malgré tout, je suis contente que la lessive au lavomatic de mes jours d'étudiante soit du passé ! Petite question : je suis la seule à avoir eu à fournir ma date de naissance pour accéder à mon compte Blogger ?

A little while back, I took you to Le Facteur Cheval antiques in Chantiers neighbourhood (see also here and here). Almost opposite is this shop which you'll be seeing for the next couple of days! I love that bust on the first floor.

Je vous emmenais au Facteur Cheval il y a quelques temps (v. aussi ici et ici). Presque en face se trouve cet antiquaire que vous allez voir pendant quelques jours. J'adore ce buste à l'étage...
