Nancy Mitford

You may have recognized the English writer Nancy Mitford. She lived, found inspiration and died in this rather unobtrusive house in Montreuil neighbourhood. VDP chose the above photo because it was taken by Sir Cecil Beaton...

Wonderful picture of a beautiful woman, an interesting house and I suspect there might be some interesting stories about both!!

Pretty lady, but what is holding up her dress?

Ah, so I'm not the only one who had that thought? Thank you, Barbara!

It's a lovely building... has real character to it.

That could be Scarlett O'Hara in Gone With The Wind.

The portrait looks like a model for a Limoges porcelain figurine.

I'm with Sylvia about there must be some interesting stories here. She's from a famous, intriguing family.

As a recovering engineer by education, I was not aware of either Nancy Mitford or Sir Cecil Beaton. So thanks for helping to fill in the gaps. (And the gaps are BIG.)

Interesting post, Ciel. I loved her book on Voltaire. My question was going to be, "Could the 'neckline' be any lower? I think not." Gorgeous portrait. I also love seeing where famous people lived or where history happened.

She is a beauty for sure. The strapless gown has always been so elegant oui! I wonder if Cecil Beaton could have worked his magic on moi :))))

A lovely portrait but I have a strong urge to fix her "wardrobe malfunction"! ;-)
