Joana Vasconcelos au château II

Second exbibit of Joana Vasconcelos at the palace. This is 'Coração Independente Preto' or Independent Black Heart. It hangs in the War room of the palace which celebrates Louis XIV's political victory ending the Franco-Dutch war (1672-1678).

Such an interesting heart and black! I wonder the media it is made from?

Quite a contrast in colors. The heart is right at home with it's intricate details.

I've never seen anything quite like this black heart. Really quite unique and beautiful.

I've not seen this but what an interesting piece. I've known and know many "black hearts" in my life and I've even considering hanging a few, but figured that would not serve my best interests! Maybe if I hung them in the Palace? ;-))))

Beautiful shot!

Un coeur au milieu du salon de la guerre, j'aime le concept! :o)
Par contre, je me demande comment ils arrivent a accrocher des oeuvres de cette taille sans abimer les plafonds!

That is a wonderful composition of contrasting elements - ornate ceiling, stark heart. I love how atmospheric it feels!

So happy you are able to photograph this so well. Wish I could see it from another angle. Very detailed in its appearance. Merci!

Il est fabuleux!
Je sais qu'il y a trois versions, "Coração Independente Dourado"2004, "Coração Independente Vermelho"2005, et "Coração Independente Preto"2006.
Le Coeur Indépendant Rouge est mon favorite! :)

The palace got an ugly parasite, the only thing I like in these works are the colors and this one is almost scary...

Actually there are three hearts (black, red and gold). Are the others around?

@ Léia and JM: yes, I saw the red heart. However, I did not see all exhibits since I took these photos when going to the recital and the exhibition began 6 days later so this was sort of a sneak preview!

So very different from the first piece. I agree with everyone that this intricate sculpture makes a startling contrast to the room it hangs in.

@Bob Crowe: Did Dale Chihuly ever have a really bad day? :)

Couldn't have a more apt title. Kinda creepy, actually. But then, a black heart should be.

It seems that the 'black heart' is hanging in the right room of the palace Ciel, most instigators of war I's sure have black hearts, and I'm sure this is why it was chosen oui!

I like the symbolism of a black heart in a war room.
