Avenue de Paris by night

Versailles being a very recent town, (its construction really began at the very end of the 17th century) its avenues are among the widest in France and at the time, were the widest.

Versailles étant une ville très récente, dont la construction remonte à la fin du XVIIè siècle, ses avenues font partie des plus larges de France. A l'époque, elles étaient les plus larges.

Isn't it crazy that 17th Century is "new," and here a house built in 1852 is so old? I love the differences. It's so amazing to travel and see the really old things in Europe. Of course, I havn't been to Asia yet, or Egypt, or the Mid-East, but I enjoyed the Greek ruins in Italy and Sicily.

17th century is "very recent"? Heh, heh! You French have such a sense of humor. In Ocala, 2007 is "very recent"!

I like the wide avenues. And that is really interesting! Why such wide avenues when the automobile hadn't been invented? Big ox carts, and carriages? Parades?

Hope you're having fun out in the middle of the Canadian wilderness with no Internet, phones, TV ... outhouse?

;-)
