Dioscure

One of the most striking casts of the Louvre's collection is this huge Dioscuri from the Quirinal in Rome. The original work dates from the second century, after a Greek work from the 5th century B.C.

L'un des moulages les plus impressionnants du Louvre, c'est ce dioscure du Quirinal à Rome. L’œuvre originale date du IIè siecle, d'après une œuvre grecque du Vè siècle avant J.C.

Beautiful shot and a very striking sculpture.

I don't remember this area. The heavy ceiling vaults suggest that it is a lower level. Perhaps it has not been open to the public for many years.

Beautiful vaulted ceiling, very dramatic......and France won again. They must be favourites for the Championship .

Heureusement ce dioscure a trouvé un lieu d'exposition à sa taille.

Remind me again: these are stables? Our horses should live so good! And we're the "horse capitol of the world"! :)

What's really nice about this, also, is you don't need to go into Paris to look at some great pieces right there in your stable-museum!

What a great place. That first photo is a real lure for visitors!

Isn't it interesting that sculptors have been replicating this sculpture over the centuries.
