This is Alfred Chauchard (1821-1909), a businessman and important patron of the Louvre museum as seen by sculptor Henri Weingele. An interesting read about him (in French) is this way. This statue stands near his former Versailles home, which you can see at the end of the road in this picture. He looks quietly impressive sitting there calmly surveying all that he sees!! He certainly looks like someone who would be interested in 'museum' findings.
He looks well protected and comfy. Are those pork-chop sideburns?
It's a nice sculpture, but could use a little pressure-washing, I think. Interesting story, too. Thanks. I did check out his former home - looks like a small Palais!

He looks like he's watching over the area. This scene would have such a different feel without the wood fence and moss. I like it!
