Cranes don't appear very often in Versailles. Now we have two huge ones looming above what's left of hôpital Richaud. I've shown the buildings before, explaining the history of the former royal hospital: you can see it by clicking on the "hôpital Richaud" label below.

They say change is good, but what a shame to have lost a hospital serving an important community role for a....luxe condo! (Hm, don't we already have a lot of those) It's a beautiful building, hopefully they really keep its original features.
Sad that they are changing it into condos.

Old hospitals , I do believe, have spirits walking the halls at night. Beware!
People don't seem to realise the value of the existing buildings. So many are torn down here, too.
I'm impressed that they're going to keep the building's design similar to the original. Although there probably are regulations that guarantee that. Can only imagine what the cost of an apartment will be. "Affordable" is not a word the springs to mind.
Those things are such eyesores. We've had one working on the new court house and it seems like years.

Does having cranes mean development and good new ! not sure, I have never not seen a crane driving home from work for the past 30 years !!!! and we are still perhaps a poor country !
La deuxième grue, ce serait plutôt une outarde...mais le rapprochement est quand même drôle.
Des grues j'en vois tout le temps, mais un beau ciel bien dramatique comme ça... j'aime!

Oh, cranes! It will be interesting to see how they mix the old and new. You just reminded me that I can see one of these cranes from my house and I need to go investigate.

condos, how boring! our cranes wear flags on them over here too!
I'm surprised at all of this, 'cause I thought the French were beyond tearing down old buildings for commercial profit. Oh well, another of my beliefs shattered! :-)
Perhaps, the condos will be healing places for those who purchase them.
We are still talking about our new hosptal and I am confident that it will never see the light...
We have plenty of cranes to look at here in Toronto. I'm sorry you have to see them in Versailles though. They don't look so nice against all those historic buildings. Hope the travaux are over quickly!
You would be amazed at how many cranes are around in Perth Ciel..so much happening here that we've just got so used to seeing them..
Hi Ciel. Re your question about Stone Creek: There were lots of people around; in fact, it was crowded. But I try to excise people from my photos 'cause they tend to ruin a shot! Heh, heh!
Cranes are necessary evils. We can't complain about the absence of jobs and then want everything to stay exactly the way it was.
Condos! Hmmm. Condos are being built all over Toronto, too.
Actually cranes are very impressive and fun to watch. Or maybe I've just never seen Jerusalem without them
But "looming" is a mot juste for your Versailles cranes.
I believe that in Lisbon you see a crane anywhere you look at! :-)
