This is (part of) the ceiling of Hercules drawing room inside the palace. It was painted by François Lemoyne from 1731 to 1736 and represents Hercules' apotheosis. It is the largest canvas ceiling in Europe. Oh and anyone still using word verification on their blogs might want to read this. I personally am having a really hard time with this new captcha and might just have to abandon commenting altogether on those blogs. This looks very familiar and I'll bet that somewhere in my Paris folio I have a similar shot but I would have no idea as to the painter or what the painting was all about so your commentary was very helpful!

This ceiling is over-the-top beautiful, Ciel. And I agree with you about word verification. Life is too short for me to spend time staring at indecipherable letters.

I sometimes wonder if the people who still have that dreadful verification word thing realize that they have it. Maybe we should mention it to them when we come across it, what do you think?
