Plafond du Salon d'Hercule

This is (part of) the ceiling of Hercules drawing room inside the palace. It was painted by François Lemoyne from 1731 to 1736 and represents Hercules' apotheosis. It is the largest canvas ceiling in Europe. Oh and anyone still using word verification on their blogs might want to read this. I personally am having a really hard time with this new captcha and might just have to abandon commenting altogether on those blogs. What about you?

    Stärke.

Eigentlich hatte ich nur Probleme mit anonymen Kommentaren. Ja, manchmal kann so ein blog-dingens ganz schön Kraft kosten.

    Ein gutes Wochenende dir.

  2. This looks very familiar and I'll bet that somewhere in my Paris folio I have a similar shot but I would have no idea as to the painter or what the painting was all about so your commentary was very helpful!

I agree re your comment about blogs still using the word verification. What a pain!

  4. This ceiling is over-the-top beautiful, Ciel. And I agree with you about word verification. Life is too short for me to spend time staring at indecipherable letters.

  7. No wonder it took the artist five years!

Yes, I think captcha is cruel and unusual punishment. I wish all bloggers would get rid of it.

  14. Impressive, I can barely imagine the actual work of painting it...
People who keep word verification are really asking their readers to quit commenting!

  15. An extraordinary ceiling!
Word verification was a reasonable idea until computers caught up. Now, it's just a mess. Those who have not turned off really should.

  17. Stunning ceiling, the pale blues are so exquisite.
I sometimes wonder if the people who still have that dreadful verification word thing realize that they have it. Maybe we should mention it to them when we come across it, what do you think?
