Continuing the Jacques Martin comics exhibition, here's a general view of Versailles in the days of king Louis XIII, under whose reign Versailles became a favourite royal hunting place. The details will look better if you click on the photo.

Love the red roofs and all the colors.
Yes - the colors are amazing!
Very vibrant colors!
sooooooooo colorful too.
What delightful & amazing use of color!
The village is growing. Beautiful artwork and the colors really are vibrant.
It is beautiful, Ciel. Loaded with bright colors. An artist who does this must have infinite patience and an attraction to small details.
In rather Monet-Renoir colors, no less. No wonder the peasants had to eat cake.
You right the details are so much more prominent when you enlarge it.
I clicked on it to enlarge it. This looks like it was before the palace was built.
The light and colors are so nice.
Vraiment sympathique cette exposition si colorée!
A very cool historical poster. The colours make me smile.
@ Bob: actually, the "let them eat cake" is a myth and has been for a long time: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Let_them_eat_cake
(Can't get a link to insert today).
Oui bien sur je me souviens des bleuets, je vais aller à leur recherche au cas ou... il me semble en avoir vu mais je dois vérifier dans un livre si c'est vraiment un bleuet vu la couleur plus violette que dans mon souvenir...
@ Dave: yes. In those days, nothing but a hunting pavilion. Coming up tomorrow.
This is a really interesting series. It's fun to see how the place looked in the "old days". :)
I like this kind of images which can show us much more about the past than a mere description.
The picture is wonderful, but the true wonder is the sunny day here in Colmar with a refreshing Alsatian white wine! :)
Bisous!
Léia
un jour ferie avec un superbe soleil, ca fait du bien.
Beau dessin de l'ancien presentateur tele (ben oui, si on l'a fait pas une fois pendant ta serie, c'est que tout se perd )
It's wonderful to see and read about your local history... I just wish sometimes I had the time to learn so much more. I actually did the French Revolution for my history exams as a 16 year old... I didn't do too well.
I like the lone horseman riding up over the hill. So fascinating to see this artists impressions of Versailles way back then!!
