Isn't this pretty? It isn't a painting though. Well, yes it is a painting but not a real framed one. It's a trompe-l'œil (quite literally, 'deceive the eye'). Located in Saint-Louis neighbourhood and present at this year's arts and crafts event last Saturday, Sablé School and atelier of decorative painting was founded by Jean Sablé in 2003. In 2011, VDP hadn't been able (or patient enough) to get this close or chat to the master himself, this time, she did! Below, a wider view and no, that isn't a door. It isn't a wall either. It's a trompe-l'œil!
Below, is what VDP thought was an absolutely gorgeous painting, made for an exhibition at the Grand Palais in Paris, and representing Swan Lake. How many white swans can you see and can you spot the black one? VDP couldn't avoid the reflection of a lamp, what a pity...

I love the Trompe-l'œil, the aging on the door is perfect, what a clever guy. I had to look at 'swan lake' a couple of times and it may take me some time to work out the number of swans in the picture but I'm with you it's gorgeous....
Yes, that painting is beautiful. I've heard the term before, trompe-l'oeil, but it has been awhile.
Weird and wonderful, ciel.
Those light reflections are very annoying when photographing yet your photo clearly shows the beauty of the painting.
It took me a minute to spot the black swan! The trompe-l'oeil is so well done, Ciel!
You caught me with the trompe-l'œil, I took it for a painting. Nut sure about the swans, but I saw the black one...
you are messing with me this morning! these were neat and yes, i found the black swan!
Oh my gosh, it took me a long time but I finally saw the black one. Fantastic art represented here.
Fascinating stuff. That 2nd shot is amazing and all I saw was one white swan or something approximating it! :)
The trompe l'oeuill really does deceive! And what a beautiful painting. You're lucky to have so much beauty and culture right at your fingertips!
Beautifully done! By looking at the top shot I would never say it's a trompe-l'oeil.
What gifted artist! It's hard to believe this isn't a framed painting. The swans are amazing as well - so clever and beautiful.
What fabulous work. I love 'em.
C'est franchement ravissant!
The trompe-l'œil is amazing! And so is Swan Lake!
