Last Saturday was the 11th European Night of Museums during which major and smaller museums in all of Europe are free and open until 1:00 am. The last time VDP attended was in 2012 at the palace (you can view the fabulous show they had put on by clicking here). This year the palace itself was closed but VDP went to three out of four venues in town, so let's start with Lambinet Museum. Faithful readers of VDP are already familiar with this museum (if not, click here) where events were held for 'an exquisite night', the theme being titillating the senses and more particularly taste, with an evocation of gastronomy in the XVIIth and XVIIIth centuries. It was very, very crowded and unfortunately VDP missed the Louis XIV hot cocoa tasting, couldn't take photos of the still lifes exhibited because of the crowds but she did not miss the reading of a scene of Jean Giraudoux's play 'Ondine' (which incidentally VDP adores) by la Compagnie du Catogan! This was almost a rehearsal, since the theatrical company will be acting the play at upcoming Molière Month!

The concept behind this sounds like a mix between Doors Open and Nuit Blanche here.
Glad you got to be there for the reading, but too bad about the crowds and the hot cocoa!
I have heard of this event and it sounds wonderful, Ciel! Too bad it was so crowded and pics weren't easy but your pics of this play are great!
Hot cocoa would be the best! :-)
What no closed captions? Lol.
It's great that events like this get so much popular support...but I for one hate to be lost in the crush of a crowd. Dims my enthusiasm.
j'aime aussi Giraudoux !
Clearly very popular... great images nonetheless, but a great shame about the cocoa!
Quelle chance d'avoir pu être aux premières loges ! Il ne te reste plus qu’à amener ta propre tasse de chocolat chaud l’année prochaine.
I love events like these when museums offer something special! I just looked at that website and although it says "European" night of museums, they were all in France. At least I didn't miss something here.
What a creative (and apparently popular) event. It looks like a lot of fun.
what fun and you got some nice shots! too bad about the crowds and hot cocoa! bummer!
What a great idea ! Shame you missed the cocoa, lovely pictures, I particularly like the top one...…:)
@ Halcyon: really? There are 1100 museums participating of which a lot (700) are in France. Still that leaves a few elsewhere in Europe, for example here in the UK: http://www.theguardian.com/travel/2015/may/12/museums-night-uk-activities
Also here (from the link I provided) in the rest of Europe: http://nuitdesmusees.culturecommunication.gouv.fr/La-Nuit-en-Europe
You certainly got some great photos of the scenes from the play. What a great event!
How lucky are you! Nothing interesting around here...
Oh I remember the 'Passion for planets' from 2013 Ciel.. This is such an appealing event each year, but if it's anything like Perth so many people want to enjoy it that it can be a little difficult to get close :)
A Night of Museums is such a wonderful idea!
How to drive a guy from Florida crazy - open all the museums in the Paris area and say I can get in for free! Are you kidding me?
Actually, that's a wonderful idea and I'm glad you had such a good time!
