Apollon servi par les nymphes

Until now VDP has shown you casts of the Louvre Museum. This isn't a cast. It's an original marble sculpture from the palace gardens: Apollo attended by the nymphs, which we owe to sculptors François Girardon and Thomas Regnaudin. The resting Sun God is attended by the nymphs of the sea goddess Tethys. Like 'winter' which you saw recently on VDP, this original, replaced by a cast in the palace gardens, is now stored inside to avoid erosion. Below, 'the sun horses', by brothers Gaspard and Balthasar Marsy. You can see the copies of these masterpieces in the palace gardens by clicking here.

Spectacular sculptures, Ciel. The attention to detail is remarkable.

This is exactly how I live. Constantly attended by nymphs. (In my dreams . . . )

LOL at Jack's comment:) What a breathtaking sculpture as seen in the first capture - I like the sense of stillness despite the moving stances.

I really like the idea of using casts in order to protect the originals. This original is quite spectacular.
