June City Daily Photo Theme Day: The beauty of decay
The above sight on Place Charost is no more. This photo was actually taken a while back and was waiting to be published and hey presto, Theme Day came along! I don't know whether it qualifies for the 'beauty' of decay and perhaps it is a very conventional interpretation of the theme but I like it. Below is what the place looked like about two weeks ago, I haven't yet had a chance to return to see what it has become! Click here to view thumbnails for all participants and happy month of June!

Wow, what a difference! It definitely has a beauty and charm that is no longer - it's fascinating how places change all the time, right under our eyes... (Also, your cheese comment had me craving cheese all day! I can't wait to get my hands on some roquefort, mmmm:)
PS Popping in quick to say I'm now dying to try those cheese options you suggest (likely the cholesterol-y one please!:)
Goodness I'd say that definitely qualifies Ciel, I can imagine how lovely it would have been in days gone by but they have restored it perfectly oui! Fantastic image for today.
Nice theme day shot. I don't think I have anything.
It's a universal condition, isn't it? Sometimes it is easy to find charm among the ruins. Sometimes it is impossible.
I think I prefer the decaying version.
wow, such an incredible change...they don't even look like the same place...while the new version looks nice, it lacks the character of the decayed version.
I'll put mine up soon. Maybe I'll wait 'til actually June 1st here. Yours sure qualifies. MB
I think this place is charming! The benches give a special touch there!
Happy Weekend,
hugs
Léia
It's a fine line between renovating and destroying the character ... but I like your first shot best!!
Oh no. What did they do with the little arch thingies above the windows?? The best part, gone.
Thanks for the before and after.
The difference is stark. Amazing.
a big transformation
Wow, pas sur que je prefere la nouvelle version. Trop propre, pas assez Quai des Brumes.
The ground level looks fine. Second floor needs some attention though.
The only thing I like in the fixed version is the abundance of benches!
Even in decay, this building is telling a story about the past. I love that the building was saved, but it lacks the "beauty" of the old. Too bad they didn't replace the awning or the wood details. Even so, the new version will have its own story to tell over time.
The new place is quite appealing but alas, the charm is gone.
@ VP: help yourself!
Il y a un grand fosse entre le charme et la rentabilite!
I think I like the decayed version better. Once something is "fixed" you lose the ability to imagine its endless possibilities.
It's looking a LOT better now!
In its own way it does have a little charm, and I mean a little.
From what had become a mess to something quite elegant. A very nice restoration effort and very good to see the building wasn't bulldozed as would have been done here! :)
What a difference, very well restored indeed1
I like them both! It looks like it ha been meticulously renovated!
A great save of the old building!
I hope that the new building will be as charming as the old one, after a while :-)
I love seeing the before and after - especially nice what you have shown us here...all seems to be a massive improvement to the building and outside too. Wonderful images.
I think the old one has no pretensions and is what it is. The new one looks very "hip", "elegant", "new"...but also a little antiseptic. Maybe people said the same thing about the old one when it was first built.
You’ve made a great Theme Day post.
Well the tumble down awning is sad but otherwise I like the old place best!

Actually, I am glad to see that the poor store has been given a new life.
Oh dear ... oh dearie me ... what a sad sad renovation. I guess it will be good for business. I guess they will sell lots of jeans, or coffees, or high-heeled shoes. But it is soul-less ...
But then again, they did not demolish it.
Thanks for your contribution to Theme Day, Ciel. I am glad you are looking forward to 'Facade'.
I had this open from earlier this afternoon. Going to the privacy posts right now ...
