Yesterday at Paris-la Défense train station on my way to a shopping spree in Paris... Some of you might remember that 2013 is Le Nôtre year in Versailles and indeed all of France, celebrating the 400th birthday of Louis XIVth's genius gardener. There will be quite a few things happening, and hopefully you'll get coverage of them by yours truly! These ads are invitations to visit: 'in 2013, Versailles cultivates its garden', in reference to Voltaire's words. The programme (en français) is this way.

Certains d'entre vous se souviennent peut-être que 2013 est l'année Le Nôtre à Versailles, et ailleurs en France, célébrant ainsi le 400è anniversaire de la naissance du génial jardinier de Louis XIV (le programme c'est par ici). Ces affiches, empruntant à Voltaire, invitent à se rendre à Versailles "qui cultive son jardin en 2013".

I look forward to more. We've never made it out to La Defense. (Why?) My brother's employer's headquarters is there (Saint-Gobain) and he has to go way too often.

I remember reading about Le Notre in a Reader's Digest. It's fascinating that Versailles is dedicating a year to him.
