Though I have shown you Saint-Louis cathedral inside and out many times (the 'cathedral' label below will take you to all posts), I believe I had yet to show you its organ. It was commissioned by Louis the 15th in 1759 and executed by Louis-Alexandre and François-Henri Clicquot. 12x10 metres, it weighs 53 tons and has 3131 tubes.

Wow that is amazing. I wonder how long it took to construct.
Des chiffres impressionnants...
Superbes photos de cet orgue. J'adore ecouter les orgues dans les eglises.
Your first photo is wonderful. Isn't it fitting that you show another Saint Louis feature while Bob from St. Louis is visiting France?
That is impressive... I can imagine how it must have sounded in the days gone. I doubt they use it these days...
Impressive organs! I can imagine the sound - must be great!
Happy Sunday to you:)
@ Karen: they do use it.
I looks amazing. The sound must be incredible because the vibrations from pipes (especially the low ones) let to feel the music too.
THAT could make some noise, I bet.
What a magnificent organ! How I'd love to hear an organ concert at Saint Louis cathedral!
Bon dimanche
Wow! Now that is an amazing organ.
I would LOVE to get my hands on that. I suck but took pipe organ lessons during college ;D
Orgues en majesté! on dirait qu'il pousse les murs pour se faire de la place..
I can imagine how beautiful and powerful this organ must sound. Hope you have a wonderful vacation! We are in Ohio today for the third time in a month, this time moving our son. With my daughter moving out last year, my wife and I are officially empty nesters :^) :^(
Oh wow. Absolutely spectacular.
les orgues sont magnifiques, c'est ce qui manque dans notre belle cathe. Content d'avoir fait ta connaissance.
That is the most beautiful pipe organ I have ever seen. I can only imagine the tremendous sound that comes from it.

A beautiful organ, wonderful to see.
My late Father could play this lovely instrument... he would have loved to have had a go on this one.
What a magnificent organ Ciel, 53 tons that's huge, must be wonderful to hear it being played in the cathedral situation, with the perfect acoustics!
I bet the music it makes is amazing!
What an amazing organ! I like the look of the light shinning on it.
