One way to get around town is renting a bicycle, which can be done near the palace. Personally, I would rather die than cycle in this heat...

I'd join you in the shadow.
Rental bikes are a great idea, though, heat or no. I've heard that some cities here have set up a similar program. Problem is finding safe roads to ride on.
Still hot, eh! As hot as here - most days 95F with high humidity. That's why I play golf and ride bike early in the morning.
I guess you might die if you cycled in that heat. :-)
I love the photo. The bikes are lined up so nice and straight.
They make for a nice photo anyway!
Your comment on my blog today made me smile, Ciel. Sometimes it's hard to reconcile the side we see of you as a photographer vs. your professional side. I send thanks from Vermont to Versailles for all of your sides.
A Vespa would be more pleasant in the weather we are sharing. There is a nice rhythm in this but it is too active for the climate.
Love the row of red bikes, and of course being in France, there would be angels behind them!
You're right, the metal star does look Stalin-like art. I didn't think of that, but my title fits even better with your slant!
I agree with you, but those bike are much nicer than the velibs...
I agree with VP they are nicer than Velibs but certainly much more expensive ...
Good composition. I was going to say the same as VP; is this a case of Versailles-Paris one-upmanship? "Anything you can do, I can do better?"
Yes if you rented the bicycle you would die in the heat anyway. A pickle--haha.
Sorry about the heat--if you were here it would be perfect. High 70s and a light cool breeze.
I don't think a Rose and a Holly hock are closely related but a single flowered rose is similar to the flower of a HH. MB
I love the gorgeous sculptures behind the row of machines of torture ;D
I like the little dancing figures in the background.
I like the symmetry of the bikes and the asymmetry of the statues. Stay cool!
Just came inside from the garden. Thought I'd do a little work, but it's already 98F! Back in the AC. Can't even imagine riding a bike. You better stay in the shade and take more great photos like this one.
What is that place in the background?
A favorite pastime here in the summer is riding bikes on the many bike paths. Sometimes the folks look like it is more work than leisure!

@ Bayside Life: a bar I think!
et tu arrêtes de me traiter d'andouille
Cycling in the heat is NOT fun but then the only fun thing to do in the heat is swim.
Hmmm. Cycle in extreme heat and you might die.
