This is Jean-Antoine Houdon, born in Versailles in 1741. He was a sculptor, famous for his beautiful sculptures of 'celebreties' such as George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, Voltaire, Rousseau... His statue stands in a little square that is rarely trodden by tourists! ------------

Visiting the palace, I was amazed at all of the incredibly beautiful statues...this would rank with the best of them.
I thought the theme was black! Oh, well.

In fact I didn't tread there, and I am very sorry for this. It looks like a lovely square and a beautiful statue, perfectly in style with Houdon's own art.
