Wednesday Doorway: boulevard du Roi

A doorway on the king's boulevard with the knocker detail. I think it's gorgeous.

The door and knocker both are gorgeous! I bet they are heavy.

Knock, knock!

Who's there?

It's me, your knocker! Let me in before I become unhinged!

...I'm sorry, sort of. I just couldn't leave it alone.

It is a beautiful door with a beautiful knocker. At least I wouldn't knock it!

The heavily carved pediment and the swags on the door are to die for. That pale shade of blue is icing on the cake. Ah, the French style--there's nothing like it.

The details are amazing in both the door and the knocker. I am particularly fond of the finial head above the door. Spectacular!!

The door knocker is beautiful. I like this shade of blue.

That's the fanciest door knocker I've ever seen!

I thought I would join the Wednesday Doorway posts this week. I don't know if there is a link to add. Regardless, your selection is magnificent and is quite different from mine.

And once again a mysterious face above. Or maybe it isn't mysterious at all. Do we know anything about it?

That's really beautiful, Ciel! I love that it's old white paint, and the tan-to-gold colors around it. Beautiful details, too.

A single knocker but a really impressive one. I wonder if someone took away the other one...

That knocker is a work of art. It is gorgeous.

I agree, Ciel, this is a beauty.

The door and knocker are gorgeous. And that pediment is amazing. I'm intrigued by the iron ornaments at the bottom of the doors. Are they bootscrapers?

Un heurtoir pour le roi soleil!!

I love that knocker and I also love the doorway.

Knock on wood!

Both doorway and knocker are fantastic, but I have the same question as BaysideLife. I've seen many around here and I even have a couple of shots of some, but haven't got any information... Do you think it's merely decorative?

Suzanne said...

Very beautiful. I love doors too, seems to say alot about the residents inside sometimes.

cieldequimper said...

@ JM and BL: I'm not sure it's purely decorative. I think in its day it really served as knocker. There would have been servants to open...

I LIKE that door knocker. It's house jewellery.

Belle teinte ! Très chic !

Thank you for giving us the close up, too! It is the elegant details like this that are so wonderful to see more closely. I love seeing the molding of the door as well.
