While of course there's nothing quite as extraordinary as at Père Lachaise or Montparnasse cemeteries in Paris, there are still some rather incredible tombs and mausolea at Gonards cemetery... VDP scheduled this post sometime last week and decided to keep it after the terror attacks.
Il y a quelques tombes et mausolées assez impressionnants... VDP a préposté ce billet dans le courant de la semaine dernière et a décidé de le garder après les attentats.
An Evans Howard is buried here...
And of course a lot of 'ordinary' graves, if VDP may say so...
VDP had shown you famous aviator Louis Blériot's grave here.
VDP vous avait montré la tombe de Louis Blériot ici.
Ah, I remember reading about Blériot in books about the contributions of early aviators.
ReplyDeleteAlways fascinating wandering around old graveyards, well done for not changing the post, in its own way it's fitting plus we can't be dictated too....
ReplyDeleteNothing like a cemetery for peaceful beauty. That last shot is my favorite.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you kept this post. Hope remains.
ReplyDeleteSeems fitting given the turn of events in Paris. The photos are lovely and, like Michelle said above, there is a peaceful beauty.

ReplyDeleteI'm glad you kept this post up too, Ciel! Life must go on despite what some may think or want.
ReplyDeletetu as eu raison...
ReplyDeleteI do love a stroll through the cemetery. Always so interesting, especially in old, ornate ones like here.
ReplyDeleteLovely, touching post.
ReplyDeleteI often visit cemeteries when away, as the tomb inscriptions sometimes give you an insight into the local history. Also they are great areas for wildlife and some cemeteries have even created a wild life area.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds rather funny to say "I like cemeteries," but I do find them fascinating and enjoy looking at the different tombstones and the inscriptions. You've got some really interesting ones here!
ReplyDeletei love these old cemeteries...beautiful images!
ReplyDeleteThese are quite poignant for the times now. Excellent shots.
ReplyDeleteThis is a wonderful post. There are so many interesting cemeteries in European cities with wonderful monuments. I enjoy visiting them when I travel. When I worked in Chicago all those years ago a friend who lives there took me to a cemetery in that city that was a lot like a European cemetery. Somewhere I have some photos of it.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful and peaceful!
ReplyDeleteYou can learn so much from reading gravestones!
ReplyDeleteI have to visit this place: it looks beautiful and quite interesting.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful and most fitting post Ciel, your images as always are wonderful, I particularly like that in the third shot you can see through to the stained glass window. There are some very elaborate graves oui!
ReplyDeleterien de bien gai
