This week I'm taking you to the main public library. It is located in Louis the 15th's former war, marine and foreign affairs ministry, the magnificent entrance of which I was showing you here (have a look, just a sec', it's worth the detour!) We are going to visit part of the library and the 1820-2010 bookbinding exhibition I went to see two weeks ago. I hope you will enjoy!

Happy Valentine day! I have not been here I will have to go the next time I'm in Versailles.
ReplyDeletesur la premiere photo, cela fait tague sur statue. j'attends de voir les anciennes relieures, j'adore ça
ReplyDeleteInteresting light in that stairwell.
ReplyDeleteI looked at the main entrance, too, as you suggested. Wow, we don't have libraries like that in Canada! Super photos.

ReplyDeleteWhy is it that the most interesting stairwells are always closed :-(
ReplyDeleteThe bust looks so majestic atop that pedestal in the first photo. It was jarring to see it again in the second photo and think of it as almost ordinary. I'm ready for your tour.
ReplyDeleteHappy Valentine's Day, Ciel.
That top picture is witty - the Baroque bust, the modern signs and the decaying wall. Sic transit gloria mundi.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a great place to explore, let's go!
ReplyDeleteMore more show me more! Looks very interesting!
ReplyDeleteSo neat that the former palaces and such are still being used. the entrance is grand as you suggested. A bookbinding exhibition--how great was that. MB
ReplyDeleteBookbinding! This is going to be fun.
Impressive light from the door at the second composition, I imagine there is some balcony there. The sculpture is wonderful!

I usually enjoy almost everything about books...
ReplyDeleteC'est qui , l'irrespectueux qui colle ses affiches sur ce buste superbe?!!
ReplyDeleteJ'ai hate de decouvrir l'expo avec toi!
Yes, you were right about the detour being worth while. Is that a stain on the wall in your first shot of this post?
ReplyDeleteI hope you are working on a book, Ciel. I would buy a copy. Love the exhibition sign on the statue!
ReplyDeleteSharon
I would love a tour directed by you, my friend! I agree with Malyss that it is a bit disturbing to see all of the fliers on the pedestal... as if it was a power pole on the highway!
ReplyDeleteBises,
G
What a magnificent staircase and opulent building. The architecture there is so grand.
ReplyDeleteHow did I miss this one? I love the staircase also. And you're right the trip back to see the door was worth it. :)
ReplyDeleteThis appears to be an elegant library!
ReplyDeleteMy husband is a librarian so I'm definitely showing him these pictures!
ReplyDeleteO.K. I finally made it to the first stage of the tour. Very nice to see a bust of the King too. And to think that by backtracking I was led to a photo of Madame de Maintenon...how interesting. I love libraries but I admit that this one is truly awesome!
ReplyDeleteM*rde allors... I think I visit daily, only to come by and see I've missed a whole series! Where do the days disappear?! The front door of the former-ministry-now-library is magnifique! So is this a bust of Louis XV? No, it can't be.. doesn't look anything like the effeminate man in the side bar... On to the rest of the tour.
