Les tranchées

Roadworks Versailles avenue de Paris
These photos were taken on Boxing Day, 26 December. These trenches on Avenue de Paris between the king's small stables and the palace have been there for a while now. VDP doesn't like the look of that new ugly patchwork asphalt in lieu of our cobblestones and normal red asphalt and hopes that this is only temporary because if it isn't, then it's a botched job... VDP is also hopeful that the daffodils will be re-planted because if you click here, you'll see what this pavement should normally look like in the spring...

  1. We've had similar things done here on a stretch of sidewalk near my home- I keep wondering if that black asphalt is a temporary situation that'll be finished in the spring, or if that's the city's idea of finished work.

  2. Reminds me of what our National Mall looked like when I was in D.C. last week.

  3. Oh, please let this be a temporary aberration...don't ever screw with things that near perfection or come as close as they can be.

  10. I couldn't agree more. It simply has to be temporary.

  11. Hopefully the daffodils will be back. ALWAYS a fine sign of spring. The construction will bring forth a rebirth too. Fingers crossed.

  16. I hope you are right that it is temporary, but it's difficult to understand why they would use asphalt.

  17. Oh dear, we can't be having that Ciel.. The daffs would help but the asphalt HAS to go :)
