Norman Rockwell

There's a wonderful exhibition (and sale) of original, signed Norman Rockwell prints at the moment at Anagama Gallery in the antiques district (until 6 April). The gallery is located in the former court and prison which I had shown you here. Above, Rockwell's famous triple self-portrait.

VDP would like to thank Galerie Anagama for its lovely welcome.
VDP remercie la galerie pour son très agréable accueil.

  3. I have a hard enough time with portraits, much less triple portraits.

  5. Rockwell was lightly regarded during his life, but these days his illustrations are highly thought of. He had a home in western Massachusetts, where there is a wonderful museum devoted to his work. The show in Versailles must have been great fun!

  6. Hiw work is strongly character based, certainly.

That triple portrait shot reminds me of a parody shot where instead of a mirror, he's looking at an oncoming train coming at him.

  7. As close as I will get to those are the magazine covers that he did. People bad mouthed him for years saying that he wasn't an artist but I always admired his work.

  12. Rockwell was one of my heroes when I was a wee lad. I loved his paintings. In fact, at one time my parents paid for me to join something I believe was called the Rockwell Art Institute and I got a bunch of books showing how to draw and paint. I wish I still had them.

Your're fortunate to have such an exhibition. Did you buy anything?

  15. Beautiful works. Years ago, I flew to Washington DC specifically to see an exhibit of Rockwell's works. It was well worth the trip.

    PS. I like those lamps.

Rockwell has been a favorite of ours since our childhood years. When Mike and I married, each year at Christmastime, my mother would give us a Christmas ornament with a Rockwell illustration on it. Such stories he could tell with his illustrations! We enjoyed several wall calendars depicting his work over the years, as well.
