'April's fool'.
Left: 'the stock exchange'; Right: 'dreamboats'
Left: 'Extra good boys and girls" and right, lamps by glass blower Nicolas Sartor.
VDP would like to thank Galerie Anagama for its lovely welcome.
VDP remercie la galerie pour son très agréable accueil.
genial cette expo, je suis fan de Norman Rockwell
ReplyDeleteThese are terrific, Ciel! Thanks for sharing, just the bright spot needed on a junky, gray, stormy day!!
ReplyDeleteI have a hard enough time with portraits, much less triple portraits.
ReplyDeleteHe was such a talented artist!
ReplyDeleteRockwell was lightly regarded during his life, but these days his illustrations are highly thought of. He had a home in western Massachusetts, where there is a wonderful museum devoted to his work. The show in Versailles must have been great fun!
ReplyDeleteHiw work is strongly character based, certainly.
ReplyDeleteThat triple portrait shot reminds me of a parody shot where instead of a mirror, he's looking at an oncoming train coming at him.
As close as I will get to those are the magazine covers that he did. People bad mouthed him for years saying that he wasn't an artist but I always admired his work.
ReplyDeleteVery nice. I have a print that I purchased at the museum he and his wife started in Stockbridge, MA.
ReplyDeleteje l'avais découvert avec la chanson d'Eddy Mitchell
ReplyDeletej'adore
I should have saved all those old Saturday Evening Posts !
ReplyDeleteLove Rockwell's work, would love to see this exhibition Ciel, wonder if it will ever make its way to Perth! As for the lamps.. j'adore, would have one in a flash if it was possible :)
ReplyDeletei love norman rockwell!
ReplyDeleteRockwell was one of my heroes when I was a wee lad. I loved his paintings. In fact, at one time my parents paid for me to join something I believe was called the Rockwell Art Institute and I got a bunch of books showing how to draw and paint. I wish I still had them.
ReplyDeleteYour're fortunate to have such an exhibition. Did you buy anything?
P.S. I think I'm going to call La Cuisine and ask why they're flying the Dutch flag...that's crazy!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fantastic collection, I especially like the triple self portrait!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful works. Years ago, I flew to Washington DC specifically to see an exhibit of Rockwell's works. It was well worth the trip.
ReplyDeletePS. I like those lamps.
An interesting exhibition, we don't see much Norman Rockwell around. I really like his triple self-portrait.
ReplyDeleteNorman Rockwells are classics! Love that you were able to photograph and share these with us.
ReplyDeleteThe glass lamps are most excellent.
ReplyDeleteHis work is so wonderful! Love those lamps!
ReplyDeleteOh wonderful, I like the triple self-portrait!
ReplyDeleteVery interesting paintings. I really like the self-portrait. It's very original.
ReplyDeleteWhat a delightful exhibit! Rockwell's self-portrait has always been a favorite. Love those whimsical lamps too.
ReplyDeleteWasn't he a delight. MB
ReplyDeleteRockwell has been a favorite of ours since our childhood years. When Mike and I married, each year at Christmastime, my mother would give us a Christmas ornament with a Rockwell illustration on it. Such stories he could tell with his illustrations! We enjoyed several wall calendars depicting his work over the years, as well.
