Phew! Found another mural in Versailles to take part in Monday Mural! This is actually a mosaic (so VDP is sort of cheating once again). This is Pierre de Nolhac college (secondary school, from ages apprx. 10-11 to 14-15). Pierre de Nolhac, historian and poet, was once curator of Versailles palace and played an important part in preserving and maintaining the palace.
Reminds me of the set theory I learned in school. So, let me get this straight. Some--but not all--mosaics are murals. and some--but not all--murals are mosaics. This is about when the teacher would ask us all to draw a diagram. ARGHH!!
ReplyDeleteIt is beautiful work, Ciel!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!
ReplyDeleteHmmm. I don't think I will be offering to buy it from them.
ReplyDeleteAnd they have a clock incorporated into it! Cool!
ReplyDeleteThat is a pretty fantastical work, actually. (Ah yes! The Treaty of Paris, the Congressional Congress received it in Princeton - how nice to see it marked there.)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful and unique!

Great use of color.
ReplyDeleteI like it. A bit of a cross, a bit of a medical caduceus, a climbing plant. All these elements make the clock surprising.
ReplyDeleteHas an organic feel, doesn't it? Love that one of the buds bloomed into a clock. You're not cheating in my book. Mosaic is the medium n'est-ce-pas? Thanks, Ciel, for contributing to this week's Monday Mural.
ReplyDeleteune tres belle mosaique, j'aime beaucoup
ReplyDeleteI think one could also discern a human form to this mural... perhaps a ballerina en pointe?
ReplyDeleteI like the way it appears to 'grow' up the wall, very colourful!
ReplyDeleteTHis is a really nice find! I love the colors and the fact that it's useful with the integrated clock!
ReplyDeleteMural, mosaic - whatever - I like it a lot. Bright and cheerful for the kiddos. The clock is great, too. And thanks for the info on Pierre de Nolhac.
ReplyDeleteI'd be hard pressed to tell the time using this timepiece.
ReplyDeleteA great 3D effect and I like the way it seems to grow.
ReplyDelete@ Birdman: 4:16? :-)
ReplyDeleteI like the colors and love the mosaic.
ReplyDeleteje la trouve pas mal
ReplyDeleteil neige toujours sur tes photos ; un reste du père Noël
This is a really nice one! My compliments to the author(s) of the mosaic!
ReplyDeleteIt's a very pretty and colourful mural.
ReplyDeleteA mural is any piece of artwork painted or applied directly on a wall (wikipedia). So this is not cheating :)
ReplyDeleteAnd I thought the same thing as Bob Crowe, I like it.
Love this mosaic. Goodness there are some talented and patient artists out there.
ReplyDeleteTres jolie colours and design here Ciel, it's pretty special, I'm sure the students love it also!
ReplyDeleteI can't believe you took the picture of the moon with a point and shoot.. bravo indeed :)
