Friday, 13 July, approximately 9:30 pm (21:30) at the palace. Hadn't it been for the leaves on the trees, you'd have thought it was November. With a friend I was going to attend an open-air concert in the palace gardens: Ludwig van Beethoven's 9th symphony. It promised to be a fantastic interpretation by the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra, the choirs of the Orchestre de Paris and the Frankfurter Singakademie, as well as soloists that I would have loved to listen to (Waltraud Meier, Peter Seiffert...) conducted by Daniel Baremboim. Though the weather forecast was terrible, we hoped all day that it wouldn't pour in the evening. It did. The concert was cancelled at the last minute and the disappointed crowd is leaving.

What a sad story: the July monsoon in the Île-de-France...
ReplyDeleteLiest sich fast wie ein Film.
ReplyDeleteÜber 40°C hier. Vereinzelte Fälle von Nil-Fieber. Eine gute neue Woche dir.
I remember walking through that passageway. I'm so sorry the concert was cancelled. What a wonderful group had assembled to perform. Perhaps it will be rescheduled in the future?
ReplyDeleteRe your comment on Ocala DP: That's exactly what I figured you would say! :-))
That is SO disappointing!! People in WA have gotten very leery of scheduling outdoor concerts and more likely than not, if they do, it gets rained out. Hope you get another chance to hear them.
ReplyDeleteLove all the umbrellas. How cool.
ReplyDeleteWhat a shame. It seems that you have been having terrible weather this summer. Sorry.
ReplyDeleteSad to hear. I would have been very disappointed.
ReplyDeleteThe photo is lovely, but I would have been so disappointed - what amazing performers! Because of summer storms, alternate "rain dates" or venues or sometimes scheduled, but only sometimes.
ReplyDeleteWonderful shot. Sorry to hear about the concert. The same thing happened to us last Wednesday.
ReplyDeleteThe color and tone of this very good photo is full of disappointment. O Freunde, nicht diese Töne!
ReplyDeleteSorry for your disappointment. Will the rain never end?
All the umbrellas prove that most were ready for the rain when it fell. It is a shame to have ruined your plans for an evening concert. (weddings?) We have been fortunate to have rain this past week...but not enough to suit me yet. We need it so much. Hope that you will still get to hear a wonderful concert featuring Beethoven sometime soon.
ReplyDelete@ Oakland DP: well, naturally, it did end. The next day was sort of okay and today is sunny (for the first time in what seems like weeks!)
ReplyDeleteIt's a pity the concert was canceled.
ReplyDelete:(
I'm fed up about this rainy weather.
Léia
*** sunny morning today but with temperature about 9C.
ReplyDeletei'm so sorry!
ReplyDeleteOh that's too bad Ciel, all that organization for nothing! Mother nature is a pain in the ....! sometimes oui! Still, small consolation but you did get a great image out of it!
ReplyDeleteYou have had such terrible weather this Summer, I hope it changes soon! The sea of umbrella's is very interesting, I like them a lot.
ReplyDeleteBummer
ReplyDeleteOh no, that's awful :( Hopefully there will be a next time.
ReplyDeleteOhhh... I'm so sorry! What a disappointement.
ReplyDeleteIt's almost 40º here, too hot for my taste, actually. I enjoyed it when I was... younger! :-)
