Is March going to be electrical?! For quite a while now, the Versailles Mural Art School has been decorating electrical enclosures on Versailles' streets. There are lots of them! Portrayed here is Jean de la Fontaine, the famous fabulist, and an illustration of one of his fables: the wolf who played shepherd. Happy March! Click here to view thumbnails for all participants
AHHA ... these are tasteful, Ciel. Cara from Brisbane DP has a regular series of traffic light control boxes that the councils pay to have decorated by artists. Brightens up the intersections no end.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely brilliant! It covers a hideously ugly item with classic art, a win-win.
ReplyDeleteWonderful idea, and it looks so good.

What a great idea to turn these utilitarian boxes into works of art for everyone to enjoy! I love stuff like this.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, classic images on these electric boxes. Love them.
ReplyDeleteWhat a super theme day post! And what a wonderful idea...we've got some ugly electrical thingys on our lawns in this subdivision which could use the skills of the Versailles Mural Art School!
ReplyDeleteVery attractive. East Gwillimbury could use a few truckloads of those. :)
ReplyDeleteThese are wonderful, Ciel. Decorating the electrical enclosures is a great idea.
ReplyDeletevery nice...and very civilized!
ReplyDeleteThat's a nice touch. We have two - just two - neighborhoods that do this. Brightens things up a bit.
ReplyDeleteOh darn I have forgotten again. Great shot. I don't think I have anything. Panic time.
ReplyDeleteNow that's what I call a very civilized idea Ciel, such a tasteful way to hide something so utilitarian!
ReplyDeleteHow fascinating. Good for Versailles! Lovely shots.
ReplyDeleteje trouve cela tres beau et une bonne idée, bravo
ReplyDeleteHappy St David's Day.
ReplyDeleteI am very fond of Jean Fontaine and his famous fables. I like these and suspect that many more are found around the city. The wolf as the shepherd is very amusing and somewhat sad. Are there any sheep left?
ReplyDeleteSurement le plus beau poste electrique que j'ai jamais vu!Pourquoi est-ce que les choses incontournables devraient être laides?quelle leçon pour les villes!
ReplyDeleteSuperb theme post Cile!
ReplyDeleteUIt's foggy and rainy here as well, but definitely spring is coming:)
Our electric stuff is dark grey and ugly, but I have seen something like this in Rome.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great idea! In my old neighborhood in Jackson, people would plant bushes in front of them. But I always wondered what would happen if someone needed to access them. THis is a good way to "hide" them in plain sight! Great choice for the theme day. :)
ReplyDeleteTerrific theme day post. The City of Sarasota started decorating utility boxes last year, but it never really took off. These look quite nice.
ReplyDeleteSeveral of us have the same idea today, but your utility/electrical box is far more elegant!
ReplyDeletethat is a wonderful idea! the look fabulous.
ReplyDeletethat is a wonderful idea! the look fabulous.
ReplyDeleteThese are very classy. I enjoy public art like this and what a fabulous choice for theme day.
ReplyDeleteIt's always nice to see art find its way to the streets.
ReplyDeleteNo, dear Ciel, you've never told me how much you wanted to drive a tractor. I hope you get a change sometime soon - perhaps your next NW trip?
ReplyDeleteI drove tractors as a kid and had a terrific time. They're very dangerous, though, as they tip over easily!
I am a fan of <a href="http://auckland-west.co.nz/?cat=36>painted utility boxes</a>, and this is a very elegant piece indeed. Beautiful post for theme day.
ReplyDeleteCeil, I not sure I have ever noticed a decorative electric box. I wouldn't expect anything else in Versailles.
ReplyDeleteOh that's not fair. Leave it to the French to pretty up EVERYTHING! :)

What a lovely idea. Electricity had been beautified :)
ReplyDeleteWorks for your city... lots of stone.
ReplyDeleteDu lebst in solch Schönheit ...
ReplyDeleteEinen guten Monat dir.
Wow, that's beautiful! I wonder if we can do something like that here?
ReplyDeleteIt's a wonderful idea and that first detail is adorable!

Electricity boxes are so ugly. This is what they should to all of them around the world. So cool!
ReplyDeleteYou have so many things that are sooooo elegant in your city!:)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!
Quelle idee geniale!
