Extraordinarily grand! Comfortable, yes! I really like this section of the library, and hopefully, if I have a chance to return to the Versailles region I can and will visit this library. I wish I would have learned of it before this, but not to worry, it is never too late! At least I know of it now..thanks so much, Ciel, for a wonderful time at the local library...lucky you!
Cosy c'est le terme. Cela change de la bibliothèque Ste Geneviève dont l'aîné de mes fils prétendait que c'était le seul endroit où il pouvait travailler même le soir tard, même le dimanche, qd il était en prépa...
There is something about the warmth of books. I spend most of my time in our home in Scottsdale in the library (in a very comfortable chair), and my mother-in-law does not call it the library. She calls it the "cozy room."
By the way, speaking of libraries, I should have mentioned that there is a French connection to our home library in Scottsdale, Arizona. The library has a French art deco reverse painted chandelier that we bought in New York and we had the walls painted to match the colors in the chandelier. We have a French antique cabinet and had the bookshelves carved with the same shell and rosette patterns as the cabinet. One of the paintings is of the south of France, which we purchased in Paris.
@ all wondering about the chairs: i) they are actually far more comfortable than they look and ii) this is the book collection part of the library that can merely be visited, it isn't the booklending department, so you wouldn't really need to sit there as the books are behind chicken wire. But having said that, no signs saying that you can't sit there for a while...

I love libraries...but I wonder just how comfortable those chairs really are...did you try them out?
ReplyDeleteLooks like quite an elegant library!
Hope you have a wonderful week ahead!
Wow I wish I could live here!!! I can't wait to go back to Versailles so I can see places like this that I have not visited. Thanks for this post!!
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing sight... all those leather-bound books and the marble fireplace. I think that your assessment of the "cozy" aspect is correct...
ReplyDeleteBises,
G
You said it perfectly it is "grand" looking. The painting needs a word bubble that says "Sit there." Have a wonderful start to your week.
ReplyDeleteDe tres beaux vieux livres mais aussi de magnifiques tableaux. Bonne semaine !!
ReplyDeleteI would be very comfortable there. I LOVE books. :)
ReplyDeleteThose chairs look very inviting and comfy!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos!
ReplyDeleteI love the corner with the three chairs for some companionable reading a trois. (My keyboard doesn't offer French accents.)

ReplyDeleteIt certainly is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteIt is quite grand but might the ladder be an escape route if things got too cozy?
ReplyDeletequelle belle bibliothèque, je deviendrais fou ;))

ReplyDeleteIl manque les jolies jambes d'une bibliothécaire sur ton échelle !

ReplyDeleteI love this series about your library, it is a gorgeous place!
ReplyDeleteBut not the most comfortable seats.
ReplyDeleteTo continue with the comments on the chairs....are those intended for public seating? Love the paintings. Yes...I could spend some time there.

ReplyDeleteIt sure takes you back to a different time and place, doesn't it? I join the crowd who have enjoyed the tour of this elegant library.
ReplyDeleteIt is extremely cosy and very elegant. A very stately place to read a book.
ReplyDeleteIt looks very grand.
ReplyDeleteMagnificent :o)
ReplyDeleteAwesome, no other word for it.
ReplyDeleteYou know, you're right: Cozy and grand. How that's possible, I don't know, but apparently in France anything is possible. :)
