Cosy à la bibliothèque municipale principale

Two more shots inside the main public library. I think it's cosy in a grand way!

  3. What an amazing sight... all those leather-bound books and the marble fireplace. I think that your assessment of the "cozy" aspect is correct...

  4. You said it perfectly it is "grand" looking. The painting needs a word bubble that says "Sit there." Have a wonderful start to your week.

  8. Beautiful photos!
I love the corner with the three chairs for some companionable reading a trois. (My keyboard doesn't offer French accents.)

  13. It is quite grand but might the ladder be an escape route if things got too cozy?

  17. Extraordinarily grand! Comfortable, yes! I really like this section of the library, and hopefully, if I have a chance to return to the Versailles region I can and will visit this library. I wish I would have learned of it before this, but not to worry, it is never too late! At least I know of it now..thanks so much, Ciel, for a wonderful time at the local library...lucky you!

  20. There is something about the warmth of books. I spend most of my time in our home in Scottsdale in the library (in a very comfortable chair), and my mother-in-law does not call it the library. She calls it the "cozy room."

  22. By the way, speaking of libraries, I should have mentioned that there is a French connection to our home library in Scottsdale, Arizona. The library has a French art deco reverse painted chandelier that we bought in New York and we had the walls painted to match the colors in the chandelier. We have a French antique cabinet and had the bookshelves carved with the same shell and rosette patterns as the cabinet. One of the paintings is of the south of France, which we purchased in Paris.

  24. But not the most comfortable seats.

  25. To continue with the comments on the chairs....are those intended for public seating? Love the paintings. Yes...I could spend some time there.

  26. @ all wondering about the chairs: i) they are actually far more comfortable than they look and ii) this is the book collection part of the library that can merely be visited, it isn't the booklending department, so you wouldn't really need to sit there as the books are behind chicken wire. But having said that, no signs saying that you can't sit there for a while...

  31. You know, you're right: Cozy and grand. How that's possible, I don't know, but apparently in France anything is possible. :)
