Some of you might remember that June is Molière month in Versailles: a series of theatrical events commemorating the great playwright. Most shop windows sport these lovely commedia dell'arte stickers to advertise for the event. To see last year's posts, click on the label below and for this year's edition, info is this way (in French).

Did Molière write in the commedia dell'arte style? I should be more familiar with his work. I've seen a bunch of productions of The Imaginary Invalid (including one in heavy Scottish dialect - bizarre) and walked by his tomb in Père Lachaise Cemetery but I don't know a lot of his plays.
ReplyDeleteHow cool is that??!! It would be really neat to walk down the the street and see different images in the windows.
ReplyDeletePolichinelle, June is the month for theatre
ReplyDeleteI love the window stickers. Sounds like a good month to be in Versailles.
ReplyDeleteI like the first picture. I would like one of those stickers.
ReplyDeleteJune may be the month for theatre but here it is Strawberry month. Many Strawberry farms in the valley.
Today the sun ALMOST shone. MB
ReplyDeleteHow cool, I'm learning more about Molière since I'm living here.I like a lot these pictures, with lots of reflections!

ReplyDeleteI didn't know that and it is very interesting and a bit funny.
ReplyDeleteI remember last year's posts. They were wonderful. What a great event.
ReplyDeleteMolière....350 ans, toujours à l'affiche.
ReplyDeleteI hope you are enjoying the festivities!
ReplyDeleteYour recent posts have been wonderful, Ciel. I hope to catch up on my reading soon.
ReplyDeleteHope your summer is going well.
Sharon
It looks and sounds like a great time!
ReplyDeleteWho's Moliere?
ReplyDeleteAnd no, I had not heard about a Moliere month in Versailles...but I did see your posts last year. Problem is I can't remember much. And the more I learn, the more I know; but the more I know the more I forget. It's a vicious circle.
Lot's of clowning around in Versailles this June, I think.
After our long winters, June is not a great month for theater-going around here but come autumn we'll gladly flock around theaters again. Hardly a season goes by for our major scenes without at least one of Moliere's plays being staged again.
ReplyDeleteHonestly Ciel, you're making me want to make a trip to Versailles.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great tradition. I hope we'll see more, although June is 2/3 over.
