Cimetière des Gonards IV: les angelots décédés
These little angels guard the tombs of toddlers who died in the 1940s. ----------------------------- Ces petits anges gardent les tombes de tout petits enfants décédés dans les années 1940.
Back in the graveyard, eh? Lovely statue, gracing this ancient burial ground. Life is so short and fraught with uncertainty, that it seems such emblems of immortality help some folks get through their pain and grief.
«Louis» supposes these children were victims in one way or another of that horror we call World War II. «Louis» recently read a book about life in occupied and Vichy France during the war. What a horrible time for la belle France.
You're going to make me cry. These little monuments are so touching, and it's nice that the children are remembered so beautifully. Your photo with the black background is thoughtful.
Re: reflections. I have so many reflection shots, but I forget to take part in the memes :) Maybe I'll remember this week. Thanks!
What an impressive photography. Guess we are all like one-winged angels, only able to fly while embracing eachother, throughout life and after. Please have a wonderful Friday.

Beautiful image, so sad and moving...
ReplyDeleteThis looks just like the haunting cemeteries of New Orleans. A few of those tombstones are inscribed in French. All these places make us quiet.
ReplyDeleteThis is a moving shot, capturing the spirit perfectly.

ReplyDeleteThe children's section, always the sad part of a cemetery. But this young angel is smiling. That helps.
ReplyDeleteAs close to b/w as one could get without actually shooting in b/w. Well done.
ReplyDeleteune pensée de noël pour tous ces petits angelots.

ReplyDelete«Louis» meant to add that this is a very moving image, all the more so when we relate the angels to the children they are watching over.
ReplyDeleteI love ANGELS and I believe they are taking care of us all the time!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful shot!

ReplyDeleteVery lovely! A beautiful tribute to the young "angels."
ReplyDeleteAwww... it's sad that some angels have to leave this earth so early. But what a wonderful way to remember them.
ReplyDeleteThe little white marble angels against the cold dark tombs. Beautiful, moving shot.
ReplyDeleteYa, over here in most older cemeteries there is a section set aside for their 'angels'.

ReplyDeleteSuch monuments help the grieving parents, I think. I cannot imagine what it must be like to lose a young child.

Certainly sad moments when an infant passes but what a grand thought to know that they are guarded by angels.
