Last Friday I was showing you
the war memorial. It stands on the right hand side of Versailles Town Hall where the French army was holding an information and recruiting day on Friday. The French flags on the façade are due to V Day commemorations.
-------------------------------
Vendredi dernier, je vous montrais le
monument aux morts qui flanque la mairie que voici, parée de ses drapeaux en l'honneur du 8 mai. Ce même jour, l'armée de terre y tenait "portes ouvertes".
pics are great - this is truly a grand tour
ReplyDeleteFAbulous shot( wonderful palace ) and I guess the beautiful blue flag should be from your Versailles city?
ReplyDeleteVery interesting post!
Léia
I alwys like seeing national flags flying...these look great against thaqt ornate building.
ReplyDeleteYour first photo is superb. The second reminded me of being at the Eiffel Tower as members of the French Army drove up in a truck just like this one and unloaded a bunch of men who took up positions around the Eiffel Tower, relieving the soldiers who had been walking around for hours bored out of their skulls!
ReplyDeleteThat is quite an ornate town hall. I guess we should expect no less from Versailles.
ReplyDeleteAh, Jacob, I had the same thought. The young men and women in camoflage with large frightening guns at the La Tour Eiffel made an impresson on me when I was there. Should have made me feel safe but they looked so young.
ReplyDeleteL'Hotel d'ville is lovely and the colorful flags add a delightful touch of color.
City Hall is a magnificent looking building. I like the simple bunting of the french colors streaming down the center of the building.
ReplyDeleteUne mairie impressionnante mais le contraire serait etonnant..il s'agit de Versailles!!
ReplyDeleteUN joli plus avec ces drapeaux.
Great place to conduct a recruit ceremony, love the florals in front.
ReplyDeleteVery patriotic and beautiful building.
ReplyDeleteThere's a lot to be remembered in this very month. Sadly, our schools aren't paying much attention to history. And we all know what they say about the one who doesn't study his history. He will have to relive it.
Love the architecture of the building! And I hate to say it, but the soldiers really look good too.
ReplyDeleteKiev Daily Photo has a photo commemorating WWII vets. Now seeing your post, I'm feeling very patriotic.
ReplyDeleteLove the contrast of the flag's colors with the stone, and the muted uniforms of the soldiers. So much movement in these still shots!
Gorgeous building! Great composition too, I like the colourful foregroud.
ReplyDeleteAnother fabulous building.
ReplyDeleteGreat shots!
ReplyDeleteWow! This building is wonderful!
ReplyDeleteIt's not just the flags - this building really does look very French! Great photo!
ReplyDeleteIt's important to remember the past. Versailles appears to be very good at that!
ReplyDeleteBonjour Madame! Votre photos sont formidables! Merci beaucoup. I'm new to City Daily Photo; I just started Eagan Daily Photo. Warm regards from Minnesota, USA! 'a bientot
