"L’Art des Hommes de Yuendumu"

Solenne Ducos-Lamotte IDAIA Galerie Kartin Carton Versailles
Last Saturday, VDP attended  a conference (part of it because she had to rush somewhere else) by Solenne Ducos-Lamotte, director of IDAIA (International Development for Australian Indigenous Art), which was held at one of the Antiques District's art galleries, galerie Karin Carton. The conference complements the current exhibition (until 18 December) of Aboriginal art by the people of the Yuendumu aboriginal community, in the heart of the central Australian desert. Amongst others, the gallery features works by now deceased Paddy Japaljarri Sims, Paddy Japaljarri Stewart, Shorty Jangala Robertson and Paddy Japanangka Lewis, as well as young artists such as Otto Jungarrayi Sims and Patrick Japangardi Williams. Absolutely fascinating history, traditions and superb paintings! VDP has loved Aboriginal art for a long time now. What about you?

  2. I love it too! There are some wonderful pieces here, so expressive and such vibrancy of colour. I was lucky enough to spend a day or two with an Aboriginal artist in Australia a few years ago, it was quite an experience....

  9. I do like Aboriginal art very much Ciel, we have many venues where original work can be shown. I always think of it as the original pointillism :)
