A new temporary skyline in Versailles! The highest crane in Europe, no less than 96 metres (roughly 315 ft) high and weighing a staggering 650 tonnes (1433004 lbs) has been a guest at Chantiers railway station for some heavy duty lifting of a bridge, part of the complete refurbishment of the station. VDP missed the real action because she was tied up elsewhere but still, that thing here next to the 'normal' crane, is the tallest one in Europe! More information can be found (in French) in Versailles Magazine. To see the crane in action, click here, incidentally the photo in this last link was taken by VDP's mate which you had met here!
Impressive!
ReplyDeleteWow! That thing is huge.
ReplyDeleteMakes me think of how much work must be involved in preparing the foundation to bear all that weight.
ReplyDeleteI never like walking under those things! ;-)
ReplyDeleteBig stuff going on in Versailles, VDP.
ReplyDeleteLove that first picture, quite a change from 'old' Versaille :)
ReplyDeleteIt is massive!
ReplyDeleteSeems like these cranes are everywhere.
ReplyDeleteCool! I love engineering feats like this. It just amazes me the things people can do!
ReplyDeleteWow! And your photo with the sky makes it even more beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI remember watching in awe as they brought in Israel's biggest crane to build Jerusalem's Calatrava bridge.
c'est le chantier aux Chantiers !
ReplyDeleteThat's a whole lot of crane Ciel, excellent shot.. Both yours and your photographer friend's.
ReplyDeleteImpressive stuff! Engineering at its best.
ReplyDeleteVery impressive. On of my flickr contacts works with these things, he takes some good snaps from up his cranes sometimes.
ReplyDeleteHope the operator remembers to take his lunch up with him each day ;-)
ReplyDeleteThat must have been a heavy lifting job to warrant such a huge crane.
ReplyDeleteI'm impressed but would NOT want to work way up there. I'm too afraid of heights!
ReplyDeleteIncroyable mais vrai!
ReplyDeleteBIG toys, that thing is massive. Love the action shots too!
ReplyDeleteI would really like to see this at work... Keep us posted!
ReplyDeleteThat's a giant of a crane.
ReplyDeleteI love photographing cranes against sunsets so I do love these images
ReplyDelete@VP: you can see it at work in the link provided.
