This is how you are greeted inside the king's small stable! The gypsothèque (collection of reproductions and casts of ancient models) which belongs to the Louvre Museum's Greek, Etruscan and Roman Antiquities department is housed here! Note the beautiful arches of the stables!
ReplyDeleteSome "small" stable! Good lord, I can't imagine horses in there! It really works much better as a museum! Love those windows!
ReplyDeleteThese are amazing. What a great place to visit.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely the most beautiful stable I've ever seen!! What an incredible place! Terrific captures, Ciel, thanks for sharing -- the next best thing to being there! Like Lowell, I find it hard to imagine it as a home for horses -- even though I do love horses!! Hope your new week is off to a great start!!
ReplyDeleteMy goodness--such beauty. It is hard to believe it is a stable. You've seen my barn haven't you. LOL
ReplyDeleteSo ornate I would love to see it in person. YES!!!!!

The first photo of the statue in the archway is particularly wonderful.
ReplyDeleteThis series is going to be fun.
Incredible beauty and love it's a stable! The light and composition in the last shot is fabulous, looking forward to more!
ReplyDeleteThat is an astonishing space... particularly that first statue.
ReplyDeleteSome people in this country would pay a squillion dollars to live in a place that looks like this (sans chevaux), but they would put something different on the walls.
ReplyDeleteThose horses had so much culture all around.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous place !
ReplyDeleteMagnificent. I wonder what the King's 'big' stable looks like? ;-)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful arches noted Ciel.. I'm a huge fan of arches and these are lovely, the windows also.. so very grand for a stables oui!
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous stable! The arches are indeed lovely.
ReplyDeleteWhat wonderful walls and windows too.
ReplyDeletewow, amazing!!
ReplyDeleteGreetings, VDP! Re your comment on Images: That clock couldn't run with 10 batteries. :) It's purely a decorative piece, but I thought it rather nice, actually.
ReplyDeleteWishing you a great week ahead!
You didn't like my "golfer"?
Classical statuary in the stables. I guess that is a change in the right direction, in contrast to the use of the Pantheon in Rome as a poultry market in the Middle Ages.
ReplyDeleteWow, what a stable!
ReplyDeleteimpressionnants des amis
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous space!
ReplyDeleteOh, this is really something to be seen! Next time, maybe...
ReplyDeleteI think I wouldn't mind living in that stable. It's beautiful.
ReplyDelete@ VP: it was only open exceptionally on the 2nd and will be again on 2 March. In 5 years of blogging, to the best of my knowledge, it had never been open to the public (but perhaps I misssed other times).
ReplyDelete@ Llandudno: actually, the 'big' stable isn't larger and looks very much like the small one! This was the small stable for carriages and their horses whereas the big stable was for horses only...
Wow! Those statues are really imposing. What a treat to see a piece of the Louvre in Versailles.
ReplyDeleteA fabulous place Ciel, the arches are wonderful and also the statues (are they all reproductions ?)
ReplyDelete@ Karl: yes, these are.
ReplyDeleteTHANKS for sharing the beauty of your city with us, your blog followers.
